I have been researching John Benjamin Dewar without much success. Any advice would be very much appreciated. This is what I have. John Benjamin Dewar was born between 1863-1868. According to all Federal Census records (1900,1910,1920 and 1930), he was born in California. According to his marriage certificate (he married Annie Eliza Dayton in L.I., NY), he was born in Vermont and his parents are Constantin Dewar and Margret Bird. I have searched 1880 census for all of these names and I have found nothing. I can not find Constantin and/or Margret. I tried Constantine, all the Johns with Margrets (Margarets), but I find nothing...not from California, not from Vermont, not from anywhere. It seems strange to me that they would not be listed in 1870 and 1880 census somewhere in the U.S., if they were in the U.S., and if the names are accurate. What I know of John Benjamin Dewar...he married Annie Eliza Dayton, daughter of Robert Henry Dayton (descendants of Ralph Dayton, L.I.,NY). They were married in L.I. and had three children that lived (there was possibly a fourth child that did not survive). They lived their life in NY (Bronx, NYC, and areas of Long Island). John Benjamin died in the 1930's and is buried near Glen Cove, Long Island. I would love to know more about is family, but I am not sure where to go from here. If any of this sounds familiar or if you have any advice,I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
