3. Keep in mind that all too often the person they listed as "going to" may not have been known to them personally. Very often someone in their home time had a relative in the new country and everyone and anyone could use the name and address. I have also read that for a period of time single women had to be met at Ellis Island by a man or a family member or they were not permitted on shore. Elizabeth V. Cardinal evc1369@comcast.net

    2. Can't help you with which church, but thought I'd mention that the nearest Catholic Church might not be an Irish Catholic Church, and that definately made a difference. Manhatten had French, Irish, Italian and I am sure other sort of Catholic Churches, and while technically you were in a particular parish I would suspect that some people may have crossed parish lines to go to a church of their ethnicity. So, if the nearest church, when you find it, does not have the info keep looking a little further. Sorry I can't be of more help... 1. [NYNEWYOR] 1904, East 103rd St, Bacon
    2. I have another request. My grandmother (Anna Murtagh) arrived in 1904 from Ireland and put 173 East 103rd St, where her sister Mary Murtagh was living, as her destination. She was traveling with Bridget Duff who put the same address but said she was going to her cousin Mrs Ann Bacon. I know Annie and Mary Murtagh moved away, and I assume Bridget Duff did because she was young when she arrived, so I'm hoping I can find this Mrs Ann Bacon in a census somewhere to find out more info about her. Maybe her maiden name? Also maybe someone knows the name of the closest Catholic Church to that 173 East 103rd address. If none of the names can be found in a census, etc maybe I'll find something at the church. Thank you again, Jane

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.

    1. [NYNEWYOR] 1902, Oyster Bay, Fox
    2. I'm looking for a brother and sister, James and Jane Fox in Oyster Bay, Long Island in the year 1902. In Aug of 1900 I found James and Jane Fox arriving at Ellis Island from Ireland with John Hoey US citizen, his wife Kate not a citizen, his brother Andrew, a Jane McCormack and a Maggie Walsh. All from the same town in Ireland. That's a lot of people going to their cousin John's house! Then in 1902 my grandmother's sister arrives in the US and puts down the Foxs in Oyster Bay as her destination. They are listed as her cousins. I'd like to find them in any census or by any other means to find their connection to our family. Thanks in advance for any research done, Jane

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Question about St. Stanislaus
    2. There is a St. Stanislaus in Manhattan, or at least there was still one in 2003. The phone number is /was 212-475-4576 and it is on the East Side, lowish, but not down in Alphabet city, I don't think. I had a grandfather baptized there in 1909. My experience with Catholic churches in Manhatten is : They want a letter, not a phone call If you tell them you want a photocopy of a record, not a certificate, you may get more information.
