    2. Have you checked Historical NY Times and histrical papers available via geneaolosy bank. Just curious, how was the DNA proved for colonial staples ?? Did someone trace the 's into the 21st century ?? Background: There were three New England STAPLES clans in Colonial America, Peter in Maine, Jeffrey in Mass. and Thomas in Conn. Recently a researcher has found that Jeffrey and Thomas were related, this also proved by DNA testing. I am descended from Thomas. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

William J Staples, b. abt 1810 in New Rochelle, d. 1883 Manhattan, NYC. m. 8/23/1838 Hannah M Wright. William & family went to Harve, France abt 1843, he as US Consul. All born in NY except Gertrude who was born in France William died in 1883 and is buried in St Pauls Cemetery in Manhattan. Son Ernest died in 1906 and is also buried in St Pauls. William was close friend of Gov. Tompkins, bought land on Staten Island in what became Stapleton. Gov Tompkins bought land in what became Tompkinsville. I have info on the children but have been unable to determine his parents. I have his obit, no mention of parents. I have all of the testimonials from his appointment as Consul, no parents mentioned. No siblings mentioned anywhere. Searches in Westchester have found nothing. William and family are in the 1840, 1860, 1870, 1880 census. 3. I've come across a mention of a store named Staples & Pelton in New Rochelle, which was being dissolved in 1796 (1796 Jun 28, Greenleaf's New York Journal and Patriotic Register). Also, an 1803 news item mentions a John STAPLES (apparently with an office at Wall Street) selling property in New Rochelle. 3. Bill-- Have you located WJ's marriage record? Even if it doesn't name his parents, it may be possible to locate a microfilm newspaper mention of the marriage, and perhaps that would name the parents, as well. Do you know what religion he practiced? Searching the STAPLES surname in church records of that denomination in Westchester county may lead to parents' names. I imagine you already know where he is buried and have checked there for other family members. 3. You could check to see if there is a mailing list or a message board for that last name at RootsWeb.com, and if there is you could post it in those places, too. If not today, maybe someone checking a year from now for that surname would find it there. ----- Original Message ----- From: Shelley Cardiel To: NYNEWYOR@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2007 11:28 PM Subject: [NYNEWYOR] LUQUEER Family Photograph I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Mrs. Lee or Lu LUQUEER which was taken at the D.
