    3. Hello Kate, I can't answer all your questions, but you can find a form to use by going here:http://vitalrec.com/ny.html#State. Wow... the death certificate there are expensive! I thought when I inquired about one some years back they had to be on file for 75 years. Another suggestion would be to write to a library near where he died. I find addresses through the on-line yellow pages. Sometimes the libraries have the deceased indexed by name, so you might get lucky. Sorry, I can't help you more. I have very few relatives with NY connections. 1. Re: [NYNEWYOR] [NY-IRISH] Irish in Calvary Cemetery, Queens NY
    2. Thanks Pat for keeping us posted. I look forward to seeing the new photos. It should be noted, however, that previous photos only included the gravestones of those that showed the deceaased was born in Ireland. That is a small percentage of the Irish buried at Calvary whether born in Ireland or not. Of the more than 3-million people buried at Calvary, I would suspect that the Irish would represent "only" half that number, so someone has a lot of work to do. <grin> Dan of Pennsylvania, USA ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. I have just completed getting all the new pictures online, almost 1,000 in total. Yes, most of the gravestones are of those that mention a place in Ireland. That is the object of this project! We want to find where in Ireland our ancestors are from, it seems to be the hardest part of our ancestry. Many people from other parts of the country whose ancestors started in NY, don't have the chance to get back to NYC and check their ancestors' origins. So, this is a small part of Calvary and a marvelous gift from two who took time out of their busy lives to help others. Suggestion...even if you don't find your name, or even if you do, if you have the time to check out all the pictures, you just might find a gravestone in the background with your name that is not in the index. It should be noted, however, that previous photos only included the > gravestones of those that showed the deceaased was born in > Ireland. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Information Please! Kuhn & Schneider
    2. Theodore R. VonBartheld
    3. Hi Everyone Sorry this may not be the right way, I am not sure, wanted to get as much coverage as I can on this. Also sorry for the how long it is. The main thing I am looking for is information on 2 graves and I do not know where or in what cemetery. Not even for sure that they died in NY, but I am willing to take the time to look thru each one to see, I have been work on and off on this line for 5 years now with no luck yet. Been trying to find a: George John Kuhn, born: 1855 in PA know not where, died I do not know when or where. George was a Railroad worker as stated on my grandmother's Birth Record, but I think it may have been the E.R.R. in NYC 2nd or 3rd Ave. His wife: Rosa Schneider/Schnider/Schider, not sure I have seen it spelled all of these ways, born: 1856 in PA know not where, died I do not know when or where. I do know they had lived in Manhattan, NY, NY in 02 Dec 1881, at North 2305 4th Ave., Manhattan, (this was home Delivery) because I have my grandmothers birth Record that gives their names. I also have her Baptismal Record, My grandmother was born: Catherine Kuhn and at her baptismal she was given Anna and had it form then on all her paperwork as: Catherine Anna Kuhn, I have paperwork (Documents) on forward from there on her but nothing more on them. Catherine Anna Kuhn's Baptismal was 18 Dec 1881 at St. Joseph's of the Holy Family Catholic Church. On my grandmother's Birth Record it shows that she was the 2nd child of Rosa Schneider, beyond that I know nothing of this child. I have also been able to find nothing on George and Rosa's Marriage Record's on when or where. This is at least the 5th time I know of trying to find out information on them with no luck as well as a lot of searching of my own in between times. Any help would be greatly appreciated; if you have anything on them could I please get a copy, maybe photo's of gravestones. Thank You until we talk again, peace be with you and yours Theodore R. 1. [NYNEWYOR] SCHACHTEL Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of photographs belonging to the SCHACHTEL Family of New York. The first is a photograph of George SCHACHTEL which was taken at the Edsall Studio in New York City, NY. The photograph was likely taken in the 1880's with George appearing to be in his teens at the time. The second is a photograph of Lena SCHACHTEL, also taken at the Edsall Studio in New York City and again, likely sometime in the 1880's with Lena likely in her teens or 20's at the time. The third photograph is identified as Edna SCHACHTEL and was taken at the Leeson Studio in New York City. This photograph was probably taken in the 1880's as well with Edna just a toddler at the time it was taken. The fourth photograph is also of Edna SCHACHTEL, taken at the Schill Studio in Newark, New Jersey. This photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Edna probably about 6 years old at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate this family in census records as follows: 1880 census of New York City, NY: Michael SCHACHTEL, age 48, a Butcher, born Germany, parents born Germany Elizabeth SCHACHTEL, wife, age 52, born Germany, parents born Germany William SCHACHTEL, son, age 23, a Butcher, born NY Lizzie SCHACHTEL, dau, age 21, born NY Michael SCHACHTEL Jr., son, age 20, born NY George SCHACHTEL, son, age 17, a Butcher, born NY Amelia SCHACHTEL, dau, age 15, a Scholar, born NY Charles SCHACHTEL, son, age 13, a Scholar, born NY William WILLING, son, age 4, born NY, parents born Germany/NY 1900 census of Manhattan Boro, NY: George SCHACHTEL, age 37, born Aug 1862, married 13 years, born NY, parents born Germany, a Real Estate Agent Lena SCHACHTEL, wife, age 33, born Sept 1866, married 13 years, 2 children/2 living, born NY, parents born Germany Edna SCHACHTEL, dau, age 12, born Aug 1887, born NY, at School George SCHACHTEL Jr., son, age 8, born Sept 1891, born NY, at School + 1 Servant + 5 lodgers 1910 census of Manhattan, NY: George SCHACHTEL, age 47, married 23 years, born NY, parents born Germany, a Real Estate Office Owner Lena SCHACHTEL, wife, age 43, married 23 years, 2 children/2 living, born NY, parents born Germany Edna SCHACHTEL, dau, age 22, born NY George SCHACHTEL Jr., son, age 18, born NY, a Clerk I'm hoping to locate someone from this SCHACHTEL Family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of this SCHACHTEL Family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [NYNEWYOR] name change question
    2. kate
    3. Hi all- I have a relative who was born William(we're assuming for his father) according to his birth certificate in 1887, but by 1900, his name is John Henry. He was born in Manhattan. In those days would there have been a legal name change, or could the mother just call her son whatever she wanted to on the census? I'm just wondering if there would be a court record for a name change? I'm asking because he was John Henry on his WWI and WWII draft registration, and in his obituary he was John H. No other sign of him ever being William, except on his birth certificate. Thanks! Kate --------------------------------- No need to miss a message. Get email on-the-go with Yahoo! Mail for Mobile. 3. I am in the process of putting up photos of another 400 gravestones with Irish names and in many cases, their place of birth. This is a new group of photos donated by Terry Dewhurst to the Queens NY website that I volunteer to host and will add to the already 600 photos donated by Rosemary Mulcahy. You can find them at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyqueen2/ Under Genealogy (top menu bar), click on Cemeteries. On the cemetery page, you will find a link under Transcribed Records Online. I have added 100 new photos online today and another 100 ready to go online and then 200 more to format. 3. Hi Mary, You gave me just the type clue I was hoping for. There is a John Staples buried in the same cemetery as William. Could be William's father. The store in New Rochelle could certainly have been his. If this is William's father a Wall Street office is also possible, William never 'worked' at anything and his son Ernest was a Yachtsman and hung out with the upper crust. I will persue these angles.. Thank you for your help. 3. Hello everyone, I am new to this list and I am hoping someone can help me find my GGGgrandparents. All I know is the following, I have no other information about this family, hence this posting: Parents: James JONES (occupation farmer, New York) and Maria Day only one child found thus far: Thomas JONES born abt 1830, New York, New York. I am sure that this couple (JONES/DAY) would have had more than 1 child. Thomas left America for Australia before 1859. Where he married and had 5 children. If someone can help me or could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. desperate Karen Australia _________________________________________________________________ Advertisement: Missy Higgins new album On A Clear Night – stream full tracks now! http://ninemsn.com.au/share/redir/adTrack.asp?mode=click&clientID=781&referral=hotmailtaglineMay&URL=http://music.ninemsn.com.au/playlist.aspx?sectionid=2465&sectionname=artistfeature&subsectionid=9150&subsectionname=missyhiggins&categoryid=2577
