    3. Nancy- Greenwich St runs along the west side of Manhattan from the Battery up to 14th St, running through Wards 1, 3, 5, 8, 9 If house numbering hasn't changed since 1880, current day MapQuest shows 418 a couple of blocks below Canal St (Holland Tunnel). That would put it in the 5th Ward. Best of luck in finding your man. 1. [NYNEWYOR] newspaper lookup help
    2. I do not have access to any newspaper online but the Brooklyn Eagle. If someone out there could help me with the NY times I would appreciate some help. I have an ancestor whose name is Martha Ethel Marshall. She went by the name Ethel. Somewhere around 1899 she marries a man named Kearney/ Kearny(I do not know his first name). I have looked on the Italian site and found no record of the marriage. I have also looked in the index for 1900 census and she is not listed with her new husband. She does however show up as a widow on the 1910 census with their daughter Muriel saying that they had been married 11 years and had only 1 child. This makes me believe that he probably died soon after they were married. In the 1920 census she is shown as being married to a George Glanz they are living in Freeport, N. Hempstead, NY (on LI). There is no record of their marriage on the It. site either. I am hoping that the NY papers will either give something about deaths or marriages. Thanks for the help. Joan

    3. According to the IGG NYC marriage indexes, an Ethel Marshall married a John E. Kearney on 9 Dec. 1900 in Manhattan, certificate #20566. According to the IGG NYC death index, a John Kearney died on 19 Feb. 1916 at the age of 45 in Manhattan, certificate #5959. This jibes with the age of the John shown living with Ethel and Muriel in the 1910 census. The first is a photograph of Maggie DELEON which was taken at the Dana Studio in New York City. 3. If someone else has not already offered, I think I can obtain this certificate for your English friend, provided you have the name, the date, the borough, and the certificate number. I will be ordering from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Their service is pretty fast -- two to three weeks. When the document arrives, I will scan it and e-mail it to whomever you designate. 2. Judy, You can view the indexes to B,M,D at the Plainview fhc (unless they have gotten rid of them since a couple of year ago but I doubt it) but for anything else beyond that you will need to got to the NYC archives. Ask the Bklyn county clerks office if they have what you want. They might have some too. You can look at indexes in a number of other places, but the actual certificate films are only available at the Muni Archives---sorry! 1. [NYNEWYOR] Newbie to LIST - McKINNEY
    2. Fiona Jones
    3. Hello, I hope someone can help me. I would like some advice as to where I might be able to obtain any further information on JAMES McKINNEY (born in Antrim, Ireland on 25 Nov. 1884 - although he later states 1883). 1) I have not been able to track down any immigration record for James but Irish census data would indicate sometime from 1901-1911. 2) On his 1918 Draft registration card, James states the following: DOB: 25 Nov. 1883 Place of work: 111 Broadway, NYC. Name & Address of someone who ill always know your address: Mrs. John Cavanagh (friend), 6 137 W 63 NYC 3) On his 1942 Draft registration card, James states the following: DOB: 25 Nov. 1883 Place of work: Chubb & Son, John St. NYC. Name & Address of someone who ill always know your address: Mrs. Catherine Cavanagh, 6 Amsterdam, Ave., NYC 4) Despite knowing that he must be in NYC I can't find James on the 1910, 1920 or 1930 US Fed census (or Catherine for that matter). 5) There doesn't seemed be a SS death record. For some reason James seems to have kept a very low profile only giving information to the authorities when he had no other choice. In particular I would like to find a death record for James (and then perhaps a burial plot). I don't know if James was a church-goer but he would have been born into a Presbyterian family. I would have expected James to have died sometime after 1948 and so somewhere at the DOHMH there should be a record of it but I don't know how to apply for a record if I don't have an actual DOD. Any ideas? All help in obtaining any further information would be most gratefully received. Fiona. IGP County Down Coordinator. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nirdow2/

    3. Hi, Depends where in New York the person died....was it New York State or New York City? If New York City then you can apply for a copy through the New York City Department of Mental Health and Hygiene....cost is USD$15. VERY IMPORTANT DON'T forget to send copies of 2 photo ID's when applying or the application will be returned (like mine). No they don't accept credit card payments...I sent an international bank draft. Sent it back today with 2 photo ID's so hopefully will get it this time. Others may be able to advise you if the death occurred in New York State.... .I have found American research quite hard with no centralization of records (they are all over the place) but the people on these lists are extremely helpful. Cheers, Kate Wellington, New Zealand
