An elderly aunt of mine once said that "in the old days" renters moved every year to get a clean, freshly painted apartment in New York City. ----- Original Message ----- From: Fiona Jones To: nynewyor@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2007 7:24 PM Subject: [NYNEWYOR] street directories Hi, Would anyone know if there are any street directories for NY around 1942? 3. Thank you so much Nina - it all helps a lot. I don't have a lot of experience with research in NY - so it's all a little confusing at first. Fiona. Again, the address for him and Cavanagh is the same. Possibly if you do a comprehensive search for Catherine (Mrs John I imagine) and John Cavanagh you may be able to find James McKinney with them/her? This is of course assuming I have the right couple here but the info matches very closely between 1910 and 1920 (ages) No trace in 1930 of either, maybe need to play with bizarre spellings. 3. Debbi, I'm sorry that was the wrong map site I sent; it wasn't supposed to be a shopping site. I've got to run, but I'll try to find the one I was thinking of later. There are tons of old maps on-line for free. Trying googling something like: +map +manhattan +1875..1900 and see what that turns up. There was a good deal of discussion about it on this list about 5-7 years ago and then I unsubscribed for awhile. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Samuels-descendants of Morris, Mark and Rachel
    2. Myra & Peter Waddell
    3. I'm searching for cousins, Morris and Mark - both born in England in about 1920 and 1922 but moved to America with their parents, Simon (a twin) and Marion/Miriam. Simon was born in 1894 in NY and his wife's maiden name is believed to be O'Neil. She was born in either Ireland or England. In about 1926, a girl was added to the family - Rachel - and, by then, the family was living in New York. Later, the boys were known as Moe and Mickey and the girl, Rita (I think!). I believe she sang on cruise liners and was known as Peggy O'Neil. Moe was last heard of in Riverdale, New York. Mickey, it is believed, had five children and was last heard of in Chicago, Rita's last known residence was Manhattan. Are these names and other details familiar to anyone, please? Myra Waddell. 3. Hi I have found one of my ancestors on the 1880 census living at 505 (I think?) on 'West 49th Street'. Is there anywhere on the internet where I could view a map and maybe some pictures of this street taken around 1880's. Thank you for your help Debbi

    3. Hi I have found that one of my ancestors was married at Nativity Church, 44 Second Avenue, New York in 1878. I was wondering if anybody knows of anywhere on the internet where I could view any pictures of the church taken at about the same time as they where married. Thank you for your help Debbi
