    1. [NYNEWYOR] research in Greenwich Village.
    2. Hello, New York: My name is Bill DUCHEK and I live in San Diego - "about as fer as u can git from New York" - therein lies my dilema: I am in need of help and/or suggestions in dealing with my research in your area, wich deals with my 3x great gf, James FORSYTH. He was from Scotland, arriving New York ca 1805-1812. Opened a business in weaving on Greenwich St. in the West Village. In Oct of 1814 he married a Phebe PUGSLY in the Dutch Reformed Church in Greenwich Village. Some time after, they moved west to Ohio, where my research really began. Problem: I doubt if there would be any records of his business - it's possible, but - where to research records, tax, licenses, etc? I have a brick wall on Phebe and family - where to look for that data? I would appreciate any suggestions as where to locate such data. _____________________________________________________________ Netscape. Just the Net You Need.

    1. [NYNEWYOR] Ancestry price
    2. Sue Maxwell
    3. I wouldn't say that that price is a discount. I pay 40 something a month for a year round subscription- a bit more than paying for the entire year. I live near Ancestry and am interested to know what this all means. Sue

    2. Could you let everyine know when the English version of this is issued. I have received permission from Tom Kemp to send this to other lists, as it affects us all. I had also mentioned that maybe prices would go up. 3. I thought you asked about a posting about www.GenealogyBank.com - that is the site where the sub price went down - to celebrate their one year anniversary. I don't have any comment about the Ancestry changes - or speculation on their pricing. You'll have to ask them. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Searching for descendants of my Samuels' cousins
    2. Myra & Peter Waddell
    3. I have posted this search before but - "if at first you don't succeed" etc. In the 1930 census, I discovered the listing of one of my uncles, who was a twin (to Lewis) - Simon SAMUELS, his wife, Miriam or Marion (nee O'NEILL), and their children, Morris, Mark and Rachel. At that time, the children were aged 10, 8 and 4. The older two were born in England (Morris in 1920 and Mark in 1922). Rachel was born in New York in about 1926. Later in life, the children were known as Moe, Mickey and Rita. When last heard of (many years ago) - Morris (Moe) lived in Riverdale, New York - Mark (Mickey) had converted to Catholicism, had five children and was living in Chicago - and Rachel (Rita) was married twice, last heard of in Manhattan and was a singer who went by the name of Peggy O?Neill (her mother?s maiden name). She used to sing on cruise ships and her mother often accompanied her. That is all I know about them, except that I *do* know that Mark is *not* Mark E. Samuels who died in Pennsylvania in 1993! Thanks for any help I might receive in tracing these cousins. I've been searching for them for years, without any success, except finding them, eventually, mis-spelt, in the 1930 census. The photograph is dated June 1893 with Eleanor appearing to be in her teens at the time it was taken. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Good Sheperd Home, Portland
    2. Donald Sass
    3. Would this Good Shepherd home be in the vicinity of Hillsboro or Beaverton, Oregon? When I drive by a certain area I always think about the Home that was there. At the time I worked for a firm that maintained their telephone system. It was a girls home. Don

    1. [NYNEWYOR] Italian research
    2. Tom Kemp
    3. Since Columbus Day is celebrated twice this week - on Monday the 8th and on the traditional day Friday the 12th I am posting a few titles of interest for Italian research. See: http://genlibrarian.blogspot.com/ The first is Robert Franz Foerster's The Italian Emigration of Our Times published by Harvard. This thorough book should be read by all genealogists interested in Italian family history. It describes the emigration from Italy not only to the US but to Switzerland, Argentina etc., and in turn the second migrations to other countries and those returning to Italy. Foerster discusses the migration from Italy from the earliest times but his focus is the pace of migration from each of the regions of Italy from 1876 to 1909. He gives charts and tables throughout the text. Note the useful table on page 529 showing the numbers of migrants from 1876-1886, 1887-1900, 1901-1909. Foerster, Robert Franz. The Italian Emigration of Our Times. Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1919. 556p. http://genlibrarian.blogspot.com/ The second is a scarce item about Italian migration to Argentina and the impact the Italians had on the agricultural economy and practices there. Conti, Marcello. L'Argentina come paese di immigrazione e di colonizzazione agricola. Florence, Italy: G. Ramella, 1908. 19p. http://genlibrarian.blogspot.com/ The last title is a very scarce and unusual manual for Italian immigrants. Written in Italian and published in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it briefed them on the law and on what they could expect in Brazil. Sao Paulo encouraged migrants to build their economy. Rotellini, Vitaliano. La legge di immigrazione e colonizzazione per lo stato di San Paolo. Messaggio, legge, commenti; una lettera al "messagero" di Roma. Sao Paulo, Brazil: Fanfulla, 1901. 30p. http://genlibrarian.blogspot.com/ As a free service we are going to make it easy for you to build yourgenealogy library. Every day we will highlight a few genealogy and local history books which you may download and keep. These files (PDF) are fully searchable. So at any time you may quickly search them and find your ancestors. It is our intention to make this a simple and easy way to build your genealogy library. http://genlibrarian.blogspot.com/
