I wonder if anyone can help me with this? My ancestor James Toft was born at 287 Hudson Street, Manhattan, New York on 6 May 1866. His sister Mary had been born in the US in about 1861, though I don't know where. Their parents both came from the UK to the US sometime after their marriage in 1858. By 1881 the family is back in England, where they stayed. Where might I find details of the birth of James in New York? What sort of district were they born in - well-to-do, or poor? What other evidence might their be of their time in the US? I'm living in the UK and don't have much idea of what this district of New York might have been like. Thanks for any help. Happy to return the favour if anyone needs legwork in Cornwall or the South-West of England. Steve Griffin

I have been working on a project about Rev. War soldiers who were considered "of color" meaning Black, mixed (malatto as the term was used), or Indian. If you have an ancestor who fits into this catagory and you can prove (Through documentation) that he/she served I would like to hear from you. Please email me at my address (not this site); sadiegirl06@comcast.net. Looking forward to hearing from you, Joan

I have the family in 1900 in Brooklyn, Only Margaret [Maggie] is shown along with her brothers, Henry C. and Edward A. and sister, Irene, and the mother. Father Lawrence J. was in Canada with the rest of the family. On 1901 Toronto ON Canada Census, the whole family is back in Canada. No Mabel A. Florence A only lived 17 days. Just need to prove parentage for one of the grandaughters of Margaret A. Corney. Margaret supposedly told relatives that there was a fire and her papers were burned. She said her birth was 24 March 1887, Miami Florida., thereby making herself two years younger and not born NY. This family has changed names, dates of birth, places of birth like others change clothes. Don't get me wrong I love them, but they sure make it hard to fine them. Many thanks. pic
Since the triplet (???) were all born the same date check the 1900 census to see who mom and dad are. Sorry for cross-list but not sure where births took place in 1885. Looking for anyone descended from any Staples (Staple) family living in New York City/ Westchester County area in 1750 to 1800 time period. BTW: A while ago I was looking to identify a location called Greenwich and one called Bunker Hill referred to in a NYC Will.. I started looking in Conn. Old maps finally revealed that both were communities in Manhattan in early 1800's BILL STAPLES Researching STAPLES, HOLMES, ELMS, DEHART, SHERWOOD, NICHOLS, COSMAN. Website: www.wstaples.net
I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Billy MCGEE which was taken at the Falk Studio on Broadway in New York City, NY. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Billy likely about 3-4 years old at the time. I am hoping to locate someone from Billy's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
