    3. If you haven't seen the actual graves at Calvary, check the two books "New Yorkers Carved in Stone" that contain headstone inscriptions from Old/First and Second Calvary cemeteries. Many Irish put the county of origin on the headstones. If yours are among those transcribed, you could be in luck. 1. [NYNEWYOR] Lookup: Edwin Dewar and Margaret (Hendrickson) Dewar
    2. Elizabeth Martinez-Gibson
    3. I just received my ggfather's (John Benjamin Dewar) death certificate that lists his parents as Edwin Dewar and Margaret Hendrickson. This is new information, since his marriage certificate listed them as Constantin Dewar and Margret Bird (I couldn't find these names anywhere). John B. is listed consistently on census records as being born in CA (his marriage certificate lists place of birth VT). His death certificate just says USA (his parents are listed also as birth place USA), so I still have not confirmed his birth place. Can anyone lookup Edwin and Margaret Dewar between 1850-1910? If so, where were they living? who is listed in the family? Where do they come from? Thanks you, Liz _________________________________________________________________ Time for vacation? 3. Thank you all for your help with Paul John Berger. I now have some more leads to work with. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find out where he died. I called the L. I. National Cemetery. Lately, I have been calling them on a regularly with at least three relatives being buried there. Just to let you know...the person answering has been very helpful. In the past, I wasn't even able to get my uncle's wife's name, but this time I did. So, persistence is key. 3. Hi Liz, To my knowledge, the New York State census schedules have not been digitized. Many of them have been microfilmed. As for Suffolk County, the only three still in existence are the ones for 1865, 1915, and 1925. The rest were lost to fires, presumably. Unfortunately, the years you indicate in your subject line are not covered by any of these three. For further information, I have seen a book that lists the availability of the various years for each and every county in NYS. You should be able to find that book through a union catalog or perhaps even a google search. As for obtaining the microfilm copies of these, I do not know. Perhaps the NYS Library will loan them. Here in Suffolk County it is no problem to get them on inter-library loan from the Suffolk Cooperative Library System. But it is my understanding that SCLS only loans to the member libraries in our county. I know that NY has census records in between the federal census (1905, 1915...). To access these, do you have to have an address? It seems that major things went on between these years leaving puzzling gaps and since they moved around, it's hard to know where they lived. My ggfather arrived in 1881, he lived in Rocky Point, in 1900; then he died in NYC in 1906. There are kids listed on the 1900 census that are not all from his wife of that time. Then his wife from the 1900 census, shows up remarried in 1910 with a 4 yr. old child (don't know if it's hers or her new husband's). From Rocky Point,L.I.,she goes to VA and then back to the Bronx and dies in Richmond in 1923. So...I'd love to fill in these gaps by looking at some of the NY census, but I don't have addresses. I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks, Liz _________________________________________________________________ Time for vacation?
