    3. Hi Sue, Just got back from some time off, nice to see you on this list. How are things out West?. In reference to your latest post, Do the Boy Scouts in your area provide you with the flags?. Or is there a sort of ceremony that involves their participation. I had a troop for years, eons ago and we did not do anything like that. We sponsored groups in the schools and churches but our budgets did not include buying stuff and distributing same. Rather we were always looking for donations same as the Girl Scouts, like selling cookies etc. Recognize your input anywhere. Welcome...Cheers, Claudia sic -----Original Message----- From: nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue Maxwell Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 7:18 PM To: nynewyor@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYNEWYOR] FLY the FLAG Thursday Everyone in our area has a flag up every holiday and on that day- so lots of us join all of you-it is done through the Boy Scouts- great to see every house with a flag- Sue -----Original Message----- From: nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of MizScarlettNY@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 4:58 PM To: NYNEWYOR@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYNEWYOR] FLY the FLAG Thursday Thursday is the sad anniversary of terrorists destroying America, as we've known it. I go through at least two flags or more every year. Flags with the embroided stars and sewn strips last the longest. How about that one? (I had a date from an obituary.) 2) The other two death records I was looking for -I had dates from cemetery records but their names were definitely not in the Indices for New York City. I therefore had to scroll through the microfilms, one by one on those approximate dates, and lo and behold! There they were! Not always easy, is it? Could not agree more with Mdme Scarlett...Sept. 11.changed my life forever. I never take my flag down, A light shines on it at night instead of unfurling, folding and bringing it inside to return it at daybreak. I love my country un ashamedly and defy anyone to give me attitude about my patriotism. I sing my anthem at sports events and ask God to bless all the kids in the Services and their families for taking care of me and mine. Love of our country never ever goes out of style. We are the best and will always be the best. And you can take that to the bank and shove it down the throat of the d---muzzies and their Jhiad...Sorry Jim I get carried away.. ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Tue, 09 Sep 2008 19:45:18 -0400 From: "myperidot" <myperidot@verizon.net> Subject: Re: [NYNEWYOR] FLY the FLAG Thursday To: <nynewyor@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <001201c912d6$1dfa8b30$59efa190$@net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Come on Mark, lighten up please.....We are talking September 11....Let it go C -----Original Message----- From: nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nynewyor-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mark Lomax Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 7:23 PM To: nynewyor@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYNEWYOR] FLY the FLAG Thursday This message does not belong on a Rootsweb mailing list. 1. [NYNEWYOR] More B/M/D clues
    2. A couple of problems I encountered while looking for NYC records. 1) one death record had Mrs and then the first and last name of her husband. 3. Yes- that is a good thought, Irene, I own it, also. It just looks so formidable. Since the research project that I am working on for a published book involves ancestors who were well of financially, I need to read some about their culture. I know quite a bit about their lives, as they were in he NYTimes a lot, but I am interested in the historical setting as well as how they probably lived. Some of it I have figured out from photos, etc, and I have plenty of clues- the library has many good books on NYC, but I like to hear what others enjoy. 3. I have death certificates where the name is misspelled to be unrecognizable. Unless the person at the MA did a search of the actual certificates and not Just the indexes for the entire month and year and into the next month of death than you cannot say the search has been exhausted for NYC. A newspaper reporter wrote for The New York Times. When he died in 1933, The New York Times published a substantial obit, stating that he died at home. At that time, his home was located in the Bronx. Family has the exact Bronx address. A written request to the NYC Municipal Archives resulted in a "not found" response. A genealogist performed a search of all boroughs, and did not find the DC. Searching at stevemorse.org>NYC Deaths, proved fruitless after many surname variations were tried, by different people. If anyone would like to attempt a search on GGG or IGG, please contact me offlist for the exact name and date. Thanks so much, Barb ************** Psssst...Have you heard the news? 3. Pelham Manor is not located in the Bronx, but there are several streets with Pelham Manor zip codes that are actually in the Bronx and everything they do Legally is based on their being in NYC. No, Bbokken@aol.com, I'm talking about a location that has a non-conforming mailing address, such as being in the Bronx, which is part of New York City, but being in that part of the Bronx that has a Westchester County mailing address, such as a "Yonkers, NY" mailing address or a "Pelham Manor, NY" mailing address, etc., etc. ************** Psssst...Have you heard the news? 3. There are a number of locations in Westchester County and NYC in which the mailing address (based on the discretion of the US Postal Service) and the town or county in which one lives is different. It does not matter if someone dies in a certain zip code, but the county and town in which one has died is the one who issues the death certificate. For example, I once had a Scarsdale zip code address but actually lived and paid taxes to and would have sent my children to New Rochelle. A friend of mine lives in the Bronx NY, pays taxes to NYC but has a Pelham Manor zip code address. That's just the way it is! 3. Sometimes when looking for B/M/D's if your town has a City Hall, you can check with their Vital Statistics person for copies. I did that in order to get the death certificate for my twin. New York State does not give death certs for stillborns, but your local city hall will. Hope this helps also. 'pic'

Although the characters are not for reality television, the historical facts are accurate. Hamill deeply researched before writing this masterpiece. He succeeds with presenting a fascinating character who lives through the constraints of human time. It keeps the reader engaged, without merely dry historical facts.
