    1. [NYNEWYOR] 9-11 Patriot Day
    2. I received the following email from a veteran who I regard as a true patriot and retired Marine. He and his brothers were raised in a Rockland County, NY orphange, and all five served in the armed forces. One, never returned. Gerry informed me that only the President of the U.S. has the authority to proclaim when the flag is to be flown at half mast. The following link states: "By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day...that the flag be flown at half-staff on Patriot Day." http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/proclamations/ Thank you Gerry for sharing this. Bless you Gerry, those who stand up for America, and all who believe that there are better days for our citizens and country. 3. OK, Folks--let's not have the list get into a political "danger-zone" here. I go along with the previous "Fly the Flag" messages, but I don't think we should have additional political commentary--Rootsweb does not want politics on these lists, and we all are their guests, after all. Thank you, Jim Garrity List Administrator

    3. sorry, thought since this was a genealogical list, solely, which digressed to political and personal opinions, mine was welcome as well, even if not in the main steam.. When was an opinion not allowed in the USA??? don't go there..................... 3. Hi Don, Thanks, I did not know that in reference to the light...and my hubby was Navy. He did 4 yrs. In Korea and then opted out. Still has his sea legs though. Our American Legion Post sponsors a booth at the annual October Fair. They take your old worn flags, gather them and then have a flag disposal ceremony at the hall in November. Four homes on our block have large flag poles in their front yards. One Marine vet flies our flag and a MIA flag for a buddy of his. It's a warming feeling before sunset when these folks come out to lower their flags. I'm thinking ahead 100 or so years when our people will be looking up indices for BMD and see so many "D" for 9-11-0.......Wonder what they will think. 3. Hello Mr. Mailman..I am getting double and triple postings these days. Looking at the address I see the normal one and then I see the address followed by "bounces on behalf of" and the name of the sender. Fairly certain it is not my server, but I don't know about Roots Web.. Anybuddy out there that is knowledgeable about this? And I did spell this right , we are Buddies.. Cheers Claudia Ps. Could not agree more with Mdme Scarlett...Sept. 11.changed my life forever. I never take my flag down, A light shines on it at night instead of unfurling, folding and bringing it inside to return it at daybreak. I love my country un ashamedly and defy anyone to give me attitude about my patriotism. I sing my anthem at sports events and ask God to bless all the kids in the Services and their families for taking care of me and mine. Love of our country never ever goes out of style. We are the best and will always be the best. And you can take that to the bank and shove it down the throat of the d---muzzies and their Jhiad...Sorry Jim I get carried away..
