    1. [NYNEWYOR] Happy Constitution Day
    2. Sue Maxwell
    3. On September 17, 1787, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution of the United States of America. One of those delegates, in an attempt to bring about unanimity, said, "I agree to this Constitution with all its faults, if they are such....For when you assemble a number of men to have the advantage of their joint wisdom, you inevitably assemble with those men, all their prejudices, their passions, their errors of opinion, their local interests, and their selfish views. From such an Assembly can a perfect production be expected? It therefore astonishes me, Sir, to find this system approaching so near to perfection as it does....Thus I consent, Sir, to this Constitution because I expect no better, and because I am not sure, that it is not the best." Two hundred and twenty-one years later, I believe we could all reassure the wisened Doctor Franklin that the U.S. Constitution is, in fact, the best. Yes, it still has imperfections despite its 27 amendments, but it has served as a beacon to millions in this country and others around the world who find security in its words and hope in the rule of law, separation of powers, and governance by "We the People" it establishes. I hope you will join me in celebrating Constitution Day today by honoring those that authored, amended, and are yet defending our Constitution. Happy Constitution Day! May we cherish our freedoms and those who gave all to make us free and our ancestors who had the courage to come to a new country. Sue

    3. My uncle just happened to have dinner with some young women who were out of roommates and asked if I could stay with one of them for a month- he will help me pay if need be- my finances are slim. I have felt I needed to come for quite awhile but it just hasn't been possible until now and I have a lot of newspaper articles to look up for either the complete source or the page, and I know how long that takes- phew! And I want to see the St Regis where my grandmother was married the second time- looks like a real gem. 3. I just found out that the FHL has a year by year record of these deaths- index and list or certificat4, and this is what I need . So I can just go up there and figure out which year they died and if the children are a part of my Scherrer family, and then add them to my computer program; they don't show up on the next federal census, and I am not 100 percent positive it is the same family, although it looks like it is. I don't remember what year death certificates start there- bad memory. I have read some on lists rather than certificates. Thanks, Sue

    2. Sue Maxwell
    3. I have a census record for 1860 for my Scherrer gt grandparents- I know she was born in Alsace Lorrain, but on this one, which I think if them, it says- She was born in C N York- does that mean City of New York? That is the only thing I can think of. If this is them, then they had two children that died, that I havn't put in my program- I have been puzzling over it for awhile- their ages are right, they lived in NYC, and he was a blacksmith, but they have his name spelled wrong, which doesn't mean anything. But I want to be sure before I add these two children to my record. Sue

    2. You're very welcome, Jim. People forget the many who escaped that day, due to some ironic change of schedule. Now, it has been confirmed again that survivors are not receiving the federal assistance and medical help they desperately deserve. 1. [NYNEWYOR] gt new genealogy book
    2. Sue Maxwell
    3. I just found the most fun genealogy book called The Slueth Book for Genealogists: Strategies for more successful family history research, by Emily Anne Croom. What is fun is that it is full of advice from great literary detectives such as Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, and others- quotes all over the place relevant to the subject. I love it! One famous quote by Hercule Poiroit is "He is insane, of course, I imagine that the genealogy has become a mania with him." Another one of his is "It is a little like your puzzle, Madame. One assembles the pieces..and every strange-shaped little piece must be fitted into its own place..And sometimes it is like that piece of your puzzle just now. One arranges very methodically the pieces of the puzzle-one sorts the colours-and then perhaps a piece of one colour that should fit in with- say, the fir rug, fits in instead with the black cat's tail.? There are several people who write genealogy mysteries and I think anyone who enjoys a good mystery, would enjoy this breath of fresh air. Sue
