Who are the foreigner's .....Waht info do you have to support this. When you go onto ancestry and find a name, the first page you bring up is a summary of what is on the census; then you look at the census; foreigners have been hired to translate these names and it is now getting to be the worst mess. They list them out of order, get names wrong, leave out names, misspell names, you name it and they do it-this makes it harder to find families if they have some totally different spelling. Some must be readers from right to left, as some of the names are being listed backwards from what they are on the list. I live near ancestry and I may go over there and tell them that they can't keep up making changes as fast as the mistakes are being made. It is getting worse each week. What does that mean ?? Ancenstry has out sourced the data for iincorporation into census records and the index to India, Pakistan, or Bangledesh. ?? these foreigners who are translating census names for ancestry When you use the non exact part it brings up every kind of spelling. This is the only person I can't find records on. Either they were not on the census, for some reason, or these foreigners who are translating census names for ancestry are making it harder to find things. I send in corrections daily. Dear Genie Friends, I have received so many emails, just in the past week or so, where list members, their spouses, or family members are facing some medical challenges that are frightening to them. While we share this wonderful hobby researching our ancestors, at times members find comfort expressing their living pain, to a stranger, offlist. We need to consider that we don't really know what someone is struggling with, when we feel impatient. Please think of these folks at noon each day. could be Mackey??
Hi Laura, I have all the other census records, city directories, bcs, dcs and all information AFTER 1859 on this family. I know of his 27 Aug1833 immigration from Scotland and about the g parents, parents and siblings he left behind in Scotland. I do not have his naturalization record but suspect it may be: 8 Nov 1842 naturalization record for William Magee ( NY Co. Common Pleas 39-1) witness: Lemuel D. Beebe. Unfortunately Lemuel D. Beebe is also unavailable in 1850. I could not find a Mackie will at the Brooklyn courthouse. I do not have the 1844 or 1853 bcs for his sons Licurgis Mackie and William Hall Mackie I need to make a connection to the Beebe family which is why I have looked so hard for the 1850 census. Pamela Beebe's parents remain a mystery after 5 + years of searching I know they were in Brooklyn after 1859 because this is where the family settled around Sumner Ave. The Mackie family is in a 16 member plot at the Evergreens cemetery. Thanks for replying. I promise to keep all replies on list so that those that can help me will know where it stands; unfortunately I have not done this in the past. Bill
Bill, Why don't you tell the list where you have already found this family (ie, in 1840, 1860, 1870, etc.); where you've looked that you haven't found them; and why you think they were in NYC/Brooklyn in 1850? Also, do you have any immigration and/or naturalization info for the father? Hi Bill, What years have you located them in records and where? I see a marriage in 1837 in NYC, Pamela Beebe and William Mackie, I am guessing that is them? 1857 there is an Andrew Mackey in the NYC directories as a merchant, on 64 Pearl, home in Brooklyn but that's way too vague to assume anything yet.
