Rooters & Rootsers, Nassau County has told a prominent preservation group that at the end of this year it will discontinue a contract through which the group manages 31 historic houses and apartments. Under an agreement signed in 1974, the county is losing at least $200,000 a year, Parks Commissioner Doreen Banks said, because the Friends for Long Island's Heritage has rented the properties at reduced rates and not redirected enough of that income into repair of the buildings.
