He Called it "Museta Cove after a Indian Name meaning " Place of Rushes ". In 1829 steamboat Linnaeus, began making weekly stops here. But Many refused to get off the boat ,thinking "This place must be infested with Mustkeeta's ". The Townsfolk held a meeting in 1834 to comeup with a more appealing name. A sugestion was made to call it "GLENCOE ", in Honor of a massacre site in Scotland in 1692. After discussion it was accepted to changed to GLEN COVE. Thus after a misunderstanding of the pronouciation it became a town name. SOURCE : Newsday ,LI Leading Newspaper Sunday News column April 3 , 1994 John L.
