I've wondered if this information could be included with New York City information, myself.. Even with Walter's most welcome explanation of New York political subdivisions, I'm still very hazy on how things were/are organized. The "English" system leaves me in a major haze, I'm used to the Spanish system used here in the West. I am a descendent of the TOTTEN family of Long Island. My ancestors were Loyalists. I still cannot find a link from my gg grandfather, Richard TOTTEN (1800-1887), to earlier Tottens. It's very frustrating. I know that they were in Oyster Bay Town and in Central Park/Bethpage, L.I. I've contacted the O.B. Historical Society, Tottenville Historical Society on Staten Island etc, but no luck! On a map listed on the Brooklyn Roots site, my gg grandfather's house is listed below RR tracks and near a school and a hotel...I can't find him listed on cemetery sites. Oh, well, another brick wall to conquer! Does anyone know which cemeteries would have been active in 1887 in and around what is now Bethpage? Any leads would be quite welcome. Thank you, Roberta Schultze San Jose, California
