    3. Hi Kathy: I'm sorry no one has been able to help you. First, a death way out in Quogue will most likely not make a Brooklyn, Nassau, or NYC newspaper unless the person had connections here. Second, the most likely, widely distributed paper for this would probably be NEWSDAY or one of the very local papers out in Southampton Town (where Quogue and Good Ground/Hampton Bays is). For Hampton Bays, the paper was the Hampton Chronicle which I believe was absorbed by the Southampton Press. So, that's probably the local paper you would want to take a look at. A 1994 obit would not be online, it would require a library look up as I believe that even Newsday's archives don't begin until 1997/8 or so. See www.newsday.com and http://www.southamptonpress.com/ Keep in mind that this is 90 miles east of NYC and Brooklyn. It's not close and there may not be a list member who actually lives in the area to visit one of those local libraries and look in the Southampton Press for you. But, you can rephrase your request to ask that someone, anyone on LI, do a lookup for you in Newsday. This specific request may get a better response. Give the full name, the date, etc. again. By the way, this query is on the Nassau County list and Quogue is in Suffolk County so you may want to post to both county lists if you haven't already. Someone living in Nassau most likely would not make a very hot, 180 mile round trip drive for you to access the Southampton Press. Someone in Suffolk County may be close enough to help you out. There is also the Suffolk Life newspaper. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?brd=1776 and the Independent http://www.indyeastend.com/ If I were you, I would try to contact the Hampton Bays Public Library and ask them (soooo very sweetly) if they couldn't help you out. Being summer, they are less likely to be tied up with school children and parents hammering them for information for homework. It's worth a shot if you don't get a response from the Suffolk-L list. I've found them to be very nice and very helpful. Or, contact the newspapers directly. I know it's frustrating, but the geography is such that what you are looking for is a long way from Nassau County and NYC. Best regards. Nancy.
