Etta Ingram was born in New York in 1907 to John and Ettta Ingram. She married Thomas Lehecka in 1929 and I have the 1930 census details of them living in Lexington Gardens New York. I do not know when she died but I think I have found Thomas at Syosset Nassau December 1984. Any information would be appreciated as children from the above marriage would have had John Ingram as a grandfather.

She was m. to Moritz Spreer who at one time owned the Syossett Hotel." For questions such as yours, you may want to contact the Syosset Public Library (the library can suggest which local newspaper might have this information and other possible sources of information): Syosset Public Library 225 South Oyster Bay Road Syosset, NY 11791-5897 Tel: 516/921-7161 Fax: 516/921-8771 eMail: http://www.nassaulibrary.org/syosset/emailref.html http://www.nassaulibrary.org/syosset/ Syosset is one of those communities on Long Island where the majority of the places with a Syosset mailing address are not in Syosset. The pertinent geography: Syosset is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the central part of the Town of Oyster Bay, in the northeast part of Nassau County. There are 18 hamlets and 18 villages (municipal corporations) all or partly within the Town of Oyster Bay. There are 2 cities and 3 towns in Nassau County. (I'm including after my name a NYS Geographic Glossary with the NYS definitions of county, city, town, village, hamlet and postal zone.) Beginning on its northern border and proceeding clockwise, the Hamlet of Syosset in the Town of Oyster Bay is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of East Norwich and the Villages of Oyster Bay Cove and Laurel Hollow; on the east by the Hamlet of Woodbury; on the south by the Hamlets of Plainview, Hicksville and Jericho; and, on the west by the Village of Muttontown. And, as occurs in all but one of Nassau County's 136 communities (2 cities, 64 villages and 70 hamlets), the Hamlet of Syosset has a different border than does the "Syosset, NY 11791" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a Syosset mailing address and not be in Syosset and a place can be in Syosset and have other than a Syosset mailing address). ...........................................acres ....Hamlet of Syosset............3,241 ....Syosset, NY 11791...........7,339 As you can observe, a bit more than 1 out of 2 places with a Syosset mailing address are not in Syosset. These places are in parts of the Villages of Muttontown and Laurel Hollow; and, at the same time, there are places that are in Syosset that have a "Jericho, NY" mailing address. Prior to 1990, the part of the Hamlet of Syosset south of the Jericho Turnpike was the separate Hamlet of Locust Grove (1,354 acres). For those who have their copy of the 2003 or earlier edition of the LI Population Survey or have already downloaded the report from the Long Island Power Authority web site (eMail me directly if you need instructions on how to access and download the report), you'll find the Hamlet of Syosset in the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County on pages 5 & 11 (map) and 12 (population estimate). I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Regards, Walter Greenspan Cities, Towns, Villages, Hamlets and Postal Zones in New York State New York State is divided into counties. Village A village is a general purpose municipal corporation formed voluntarily by the residents of an area in one or more towns to provide themselves with municipal services. The pattern of village organization is similar to those of a city. A village is divided into neighborhoods, which are informal geographic areas. Postal Zone "City" and "Town" A postal zone "City" and "Town" is an administrative district established by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the mail. If you do not know the date of death a cemetery most likely will not be able to help you. Most, if they are not computerized (and most aren't), cannot locate someone unless you have at least an approximate date of death. Is Ethel Forstrom her maiden name or married name? Have you checked the SSDI? http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Best regards. Nancy. On 2/25/05 (10:13:27 AM MST), in a posting to NYNASSAU-L@rootsweb.com, Sally Schilling (sally_schilling@earthlink.net) asked: "Can someone direct me to where I could find information about where German immigrants would have arrived in about circa 1883? The family finally settled in New Jersey ... " Immediately before Ellis Island was the 'Barge' and prior to that was Castle Garden. From August 1, 1855 to April 1890, Castle Garden served as the entry point for New York City and was America's first immigrant receiving station. For a history of Castle Garden, as well as the Barge that was in the 2-year interim period between Castle Garden and Ellis Island, please go to: http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/ImmNat/ Also, if you scroll down the page, you'll find a LINK to "Resources for Finding New York Passenger Lists, 1847-1897 (the Unindexed Years), Castle Garden Passenger Lists". Again, thank you Nancy Lutz (NancyL916@AOL.com) for the wonderful Brooklyn Pages and all the information that they hold. I hope this information is useful or, at least, interesting. Today's (Thursday, February 24) NEWSDAY has an article, "Doing history's bidding: A leather-bound Bible up for auction is not just a book of faith but a chronicle of lives of slaves in an Oyster Bay founding family" concerning the Bible used by "Jeffrey, Lilly and Catherine, son and daughters of Suzanah, who died of smallpox in 1779, and other slaves owned by Samuel Townsend, one of the founders of Oyster Bay". The Bible, which has been in the Townsend family for more than two centuries, is now for sale. It is one of 470 items included in Swann Galleries' 10th annual auction of African-Americana on Monday in Manhattan. The Raynham Hall Museum in Oyster Bay, located in Townsend's former home on West Main Street, is hoping to be the high bidder. The complete NEWSDAY article can be found at (please copy and paste the entire URL, beginning with "http" and ending with "-print"): http://www.newsday.com/news/printedition/longisland/ny-libibl244156181feb24,0, 4626741.story?coll=ny-linews-print Oyster Bay is one of those communities on Long Island where the majority of the places with an Oyster Bay mailing address are not in Oyster Bay, and it is important to know that there are 3 "Oyster Bays" (from smallest to largest, in order of acreage): 1. Were the Creed family who once owned the farm at Creedmore the same Creed family who once lived in Pearsall's corners and whose descendant, Miss Elizabeth Creed lived on Merrick road in 1927? Was this the same Creed family who lived at the corner of Noble Street and Hempstead avenue and sold the house to Robert Ellmore and wife Catherine Ellmore(nee Bartholf). the house at the southwest corner of Noble street and Hempstead avenue was believed to be more that 200 years old and was believed to have once been the home of Merrick road Toll Gate tender( name unknown). The house was a two story of 10 room and 2 fireplaces. It was covered with hnd hewn shingles and fstened with wooden peg. Any information regarding the owners of the property and time lines when it was sold to Robert and Catherine Ellmore would be much appreciated. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I had the lds film for the late 188- &1890's and found some names some of you might like. other names include schaible, merkle, hendrickson, mott, ackerly, l'hommedieu, nicklaus, kortright, pearsall, hewlett. My cousin's cousin is a Dresdner, and I found her grandfather, Isidor. I did not find anyone I was desperate to find, just sat for 5 hours scrolling seeing old familiar names. such a nice way to spend a rainy day. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
