Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lRB.2ACE/302.1 Message Board Post: I've known of this Daniel for years, been to the exact grave plot he had at Union Cemetery, but until recently didn't know how he connected to me. As it turns out, this Daniel is my 2nd great uncle, brother of my 2nd Great Grandfather, James Washburn, whom also is listed but thought died, but however did not. Apparently James Washburn was thought to be dead or missing from the Civil War as James Washburn's Grandfather applied for guardianship in the Carbon County Orphans Court for James youngest son, Reuben Daniel Washburn, my great grandfather, after the war due to his delay in returning home, to this day and possibly forever, an unknown reason. There is also another brother that was in the 81st PA, Joseph Washburn whom died of Typhoid Fever near Harpers Ferry West Virginia while in the 81st in 1862. To answer your question of where Daniel Washburn is buried, I can't. I know he had a family plot in Union Cemetery, Lot # 238, the actual plot is between the following actual stones; Bertha Warg, Van Horn, Roth, & 2 small unnamed stones. There are no stones on the plot what so ever. Daniel also served as School Director of Weatherly in 1883 along with J.C. Streeter, & C.J. Hoffman according to "The History of the Counties of Lehigh & Carbon, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania" "Chapter XXVI, The Borough of Weatherly" page 780. James Washburn died December 17, 1917 @ Almshouse, Retreat, Newport Township, PA and was buried @ Trucksville cemetery (Next to Methodist Church), Luzerne County, PA., next to my great grand parents. He was born at Beavermeadows February 22, 1828. I feel the year should be 1831 which is consistent with all the census and other things written of him. James served as Justice of the Peace in Banks Township for March 1874, according to "The History of the Counties of Lehigh & Carbon, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania", "Banks Township", Chapter XIL, page 714. Parents of all three (3) Washburn's listed above in the 81st PA, Daniel H., James, & Joseph are Enoch Washburn & Elizabeth Miller. For trivia sake, Enoch's father is Daniel Washburn Jr., son of Daniel Washburn, survivor of the Wyoming Massacre as a 15 year old Revolutionary Soldier and a descendant of the Mayflower through Francis Cooke. The Mayflower line of Daniel is well documented long before I started this mystery novel. What your doing is just fabulous. Cheers, Ken Maxwell (WASHBURN) my mother is a WASHBURN

Thank you for the information. I have researched 1910s, 1920s and 1930s census. Would anyone know the enumeration district for Pearsall Street, Cedarhurst, Long Island in 1900? Was the 1915 a special census done for Nassau County? Was this considered the police census? If so, were they done in other odd years? Without making a trip to New York, does anyone have a suggestion for obtaining a March 1966 obituary. I want to know the names of the surviving relatives, etc.? The obituary lists their residence as Cedarhurst. Charlotte
