Use the card catalog to see what is available. Wm Eardeley 's original works are there with his searches into many of the old L.I surnames. This is material that will be found there or on Salt Lake films. There are indexed newspaper extracts from the 1800's with dated vital records filed on blue cards. Under surnames, you will find work that others have contributed to the library. Some are a few pages and others are manuscripts. When you are finished at the library go up to Sutphin Blvd & Hillside Ave. to the archives in Probate Court. Most of the books are out where you can search at will. Xerox your family wills there. Caution- wear a smock or an old shirt over your clothes. The books are dusty and peeling leather is messy. Peggy [email protected]

Regarding Nancy's inquiry below, I recently sent for a 1900 Death Cert. from the town of N. Hempstead. In reply I received a "Transcript" with less information on it than I provided for them to do their search. The only thing I learned was the parents first name. It contained no address of residence, no informant name etc. Would I gain by writing to NYS? I have Quinn, Hamilton, Logan, Riley, and O'Leary family connections. All that it says on the census and all that my family can tell me is that they came from "Ireland". Ireland is a big place-- does anyone know what part of Ireland these families might have come from?
In the Hempstead Inquirer, there's a marriage announcement for one of my ancestors stating the marriage took place in 'the parsonage' by Rev M. Burr. The marriage took place on 25 Dec 1868. This family shows in the records of Grace Episcopal Church in what is now Massapequa from the early 1870's, but there is no marriage record for this couple in their records for 1868. I imagine it's likely the couple were married in the bride's church, although the groom's sister was married on the same day, same place. The two couples are: John Henry Wanser from Seaford and Sarah Elizabeth Smith from East Meadow. Edward Verity and Sarah Frances Wanser, both from Seaford. Does anyone have any idea what church these marriages may have taken place in? Lori __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Is anyone else on this list researching families in Seaford? I'd like to exchange source information with other researchers working in this area. I'm particularly interested in discussing Church records available, and funeral home records (many of my ancestors death certs list Southard as the undertaker. I've been trying for years to find these records). I have tracked down some church records on some of my ancestors and would be glad to share that source information with others working in this area.
