My experience with the Town of Hempstead has been very frustrating. My grandmother died in Meadowbrook Hospital (Nassau County Medical Center) in 1960. I had to prove my direct relationship, my identity and why I wanted the info before the would send me a copy of her death certificate. I had less problems with the Town of Oyster Bay. I do not think they will even release a BC from the 50's unless it is to the person it belongs. Tony

Dear sj. Since Sarah lived to 1880 in Oyster Bay you should check the NY State Death Index (begins 1881) for her death. It is on microfiche in Albany and at the National Archives in Manhattan. There are no lookup services at the latter. In any event, find her death certificate and it will tell you exactly where she was buried. There are just too many cemeteries in Oyster Bay and the surrounding area to do a search that way. She could be anywhere. The search is easy. Begin in 1881 and you should find her shortly as she was already at least 68-70y by 1880. Best regards. Nancy. I was born in 1950 in Rockville Centre. My birth certificate gives my father and mother's place of birth and their age at the time of my birth. The exact date of their birth is not given. However, their occupation and type of business or industry is also included. This is a New York State birth certificate, not one issued by the county or town. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Sunday, February 09, 2003 4:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYNAS ] content of 1950's BC in Nassau Co. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lRB.2ACE/490.2 Message Board Post: Your dates appear to be off somewhat. Benjamin's birth in Massachusetts in 1608 would be more than 10 years before the arrival of the Pilgrims and only 1 year after the first permanent English settlement at Jamestown, Va. Jamaica town records do show that a Benjamin Hubbard in 1659 purchased a house lot granted to one of the original town settlers (Nathaniel Denton), this without the knowledge & approval of the town. Hubbard agreed to join the town and comply with certain requirements. This indicates that he was not residing in the town prior to early 1659 and he was probably in the adjacent town of Flushing. At a later date, Hubbard's town lot was purchased by Richard Darling. Jeremiah Hubbard, husband of Rebecca Brush, did reside in the town of Jamaica, acquired land in the 1680s, and because of his work in the Ministry, was supported by the town at a value of 60 Pounds per year and each inhabitant was to furnish him with one wagon-load of firewood each year. This & similar information is contained in the Records of the Town of Jamaica, Queens County NY. These records may be available thru your nearest LDS Family History Center. The Queens Borough Public Library's Long Island Collection here in Jamaica has a wealth of information on early Long Island and its families, but the exact records you are seeking may not exist. You may visit the library or hire a genealogical researcher to go thru the library's information. The library staff, unfortunately, cannot perform any research for you.
