    1. [NYNAS ] Twins Elmer and Elwood Kelly
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Bickell, Egan, Hill, Wilson, Robbins, Ferguson, Hutchings, Hults Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lRB.2ACE/501 Message Board Post: Looking for anyone who has information on twins Elmer and Elwood Kelly. They were born about 1926 in New York (possibly Manhasset) to parents Mary (nee Robbins) and Mr. Kelly. I believe that their mother Mary remarried two more times to Mr. Burke and Mr. Adams. Twins were know by all three names. The twins were also in World War II. If anyone has access to World War II casualty lists for Nassau County I would appreciate a lookup. They could be listed under any of the three names. The twins might have graduated from High School about 1944. If anyone has any old yearbooks for the Manhasset High School I would appreciate a lookup. Once again they could be listed under any of the three names. A letter to the Manhasset Library was returned stating that they do not have the staff to do lookups, so any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to get in contact with anyone who has information on the twins or their family. Thanks Kathleen

We few "survivors" age 72 (me) and OLDER are having our first family gathering March 14-15. Can't call it a reunion for we've never done this before. I know I was fortunate to finally locate the Green-Wood resting place of my great-great-grandmother and great-great-great-grandmother, who both died in 1874. Maybe someday I can still stumble onto death notices or death certificates. I can hope anyhow. If you think of any place else I can look, please let me know. Thanks again.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lRB.2ACE/495.1.1 Message Board Post: The Town, not Township, of North Hempstead is made up of many villages and hamlets, not towns and villages. There are 30 villages (incorporated municipalities) and 18 hamlets (unincorporated areas) all or partly in the Town of North Hempstead. There are 2 cities and 3 towns in Nassau County. Here is a NYS Geographic Glossary with the NYS definitions of county, city, town, village, hamlet and postal zone. ....Cities, Towns, Villages, Hamlets and Postal Zones in New York State New York State is divided into counties. County A county is a municipal corporation, a subdivision of the state, created to perform state functions; a "regional" government. All counties are divided into cities, towns and Indian reservations. City A city is a unique governmental entity with its own special charter. Cities are not sub-divided, except into neighborhoods, which are informal geographic areas. Town A town is a municipal corporation and encompasses all territory within the state except that within cities or Indian reservations. Towns can be sub-divided into villages and hamlets. Village A village is a general purpose municipal corporation formed voluntarily by the residents of an area in one or more towns to provide themselves with municipal services. The pattern of village organization is similar to those of a city. A village is divided into neighborhoods, which are informal geographic areas. Hamlet A hamlet is an unincorporated area in one or more towns that is governed at-large by the town(s) it is in. A hamlet is divided into neighborhoods, which are informal geographic areas. Postal Zone "City" and "Town" A postal zone "City" and "Town" is an administrative district established by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the mail. Postal zone "City" and "Town" may not (but are encouraged to) conform to municipal or community borders. Thus, postal zone location does not always determine city, village or hamlet location. Please be aware: In many areas of New York State, the problem of non-conforming postal zones leads to a situation where the majority of places have a different community name in their mailing address than the community where that place is actually located.

It states specifically, "At John HARVEY's the nearest house (where Emory COOK now lives), a blanket was procured and rigged to poles." Other than that, the story does not relate to John Harvey. The date given in the story was 1833, so I assume that John Harvey lived there sometime before 1833, but was gone when the events happened.

If it is of any help, the area that was Musketa Cove, today is the City of Glen Cove (incorporated and became independent of the Town of Oyster Bay in 1918). Musketa Cove in the 1700-1800s was a hamlet (an unincorporated community), as was the Hamlet of Oyster Bay, in the Town of Oyster Bay, Queens County.
