Just joined the list. I have only one line in NY. My direct ancestor moved from Fairfield Co CT to Mohawk Valley NY. He left CT in 1772 but doesn't show up in the NY records until 1785 when he purchases land in the Mohawk Valley-a part of the Klock grant. Family history states he went 1st to VT, then Albany NY, then Oppenheim NY. He & his wife died in Oppenhiem. He & his family are well researched from 1785 on to the present. I have a feeling that he may have been confused with the VT HYDES in the original research as there are many similar names in both groups so he may not have been in VT after all. The years 1772-85 are in question. I have wondered if he was a Loyalist. Family history says he left CT due to a family rift & certainly families were split over their loyalties at that time period. Elihu HIDE/HYDE married Sarah WHEELER (she is probably from the CT WHEELERS & married before leaving) Their 1st child was born CT in Jan 1772. The remainder of the children (8) I do not yet have birth places for. All but 3 of the children ended up in Trumbull Co Ohio. The other 3 remained in Montgomery Co NY. Anyone else know of this group of HYDEs or have any research ideas for the missing time period? Linda Phoenix
