Hi, I am brand new to this list, and I would like to know what time period this book covers. I have just started researching my husband's side of the family - unfortunately their surname is the ultra common SMITH. I've got a William Smith born about 1840 in Amsterdam (or so family lore says), and his father John, who was possibly born in that area. John may have immigrated from England. Would this book cover that time frame - early 1800's? Any help or advice appreciated. Michele
Yes this book does cover from the very earliest periods ( Indians and first inhabitants ) up until about 1880, I believe, when it was published. Now I could be confusing it with several other books I have on tape with the ending time period but I do know that all of them cover the very beginnings of each county, and early 1800 is well covered. I should have a chance to look at it later on today.
