Hello, Helen, You need to have someone go to the NYS Archives in Albany and look up the name in the NYS Health Dept. indexes, then order the death certificate for you. The d.c. will give the date and place of birth, as well as death information. This is all contingent, of course, on the knowledge of the person who gave the information. A son or daughter would have been most likely to know the information. The cost in NYS for a vital records certificate for genealogy is $11. I charge for the research time, as well, but perhaps you can find a volunteer.
