    3. I would like to invite you to visit my website called The POORHOUSE STORY (which is a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We have just posted the following: --- MONTGOMERY county sections of two historic NYS government reports about poor-relief (1824) and conditions in county poorhouses (1857). --- (links to) Lists of the poorhouse residents from the 1850, 1860, and 1870 federal Census reports. Note: Montgomery county's letters from local (town) officials in the 1824 Yates Report give a wonderful overview of the ways poor relief was handled at that time in NYS and what the prevailing opinions were about the proposed establishment of a system of county poorhouses. If you have never visited the site, DIRECTIONS: at the homepage (link above)click on POORHOUSES BY STATE and then click on NEW YORK STATE POORHOUSES and then click on MONTGOMERY on the table of counties. You might also enjoy the following pages (with links off the homepage): HISTORY and LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS, as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. The only way we can expand the material on this site is through submissions and tips from you readers. So let's see the information from MONTGOMERY County grow! Hope you Enjoy the Site!
