Click on Newspapers (Interlibrary Loan can be accessed from this page) Click on Newspapers on Microfilm Click on Newspapers in Microfilm (in second paragraph, NOT at the top of screen) Click on NYS Newspaper Microfilm at the State Library. At that point, you can search by County or City. That was the long way of getting there, but there are many valuable things to be seen along the way. To go DIRECTLY from this email to the County or City search, click on the following: http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/nysnp/nygcty.htm Microfilms can be borrowed on Interlibrary Loan (you can click on that at the point mentioned above or at the opening screen). I phoned the interlibrary loan dept. Inside NYS it is a free service. For outside the state, there is a $10 fee for borrowing 5 consecutive newspaper microfilms (includes shipping and can only be ordered by your librarian), although on the web page I did not find anything that required the microfilms to be consecutive. Richard, your offer to email me some information is wonderful. I am descended from Christian Lederer (Lathers)(Leathers) b. 1758 in Sand Flats, NY. His wife was Anna Van Evera (Evans). He is the son of Johannes Lederer and Elizabetha Dillenbach (daughter of Jorg Martin Dallenbach. Margaret Lasher, daughter of Conrad Lasher and Maria Magdalena England (daughter of Johan Theophillus England and Anna Catharina Quickel), married Johann W. Lathers. John Peter Wagner also comes in down the line on the Dillenbach line as I also come off the Henrich Dillenbach line. They are all intertwined. Let me know if that involves too much or if you have any questions. Some of that is also on my web site. Thank you so much. Terry Reisinger 18 Walnut Creek PL. In a message dated 04/17/2000 11:59:40 AM Eastern Daylight Time, DCreely103@aol.com writes: << Andrew McNutt/McNitt did orchestrate a compelling and dramatic case for himself, to apply for a pension. However, he did participate in many battles--hard to reconcile that with family members being loyalists. Anything is possible. >> Have been following Andrew with interest, although he doesn't connect with my Montgomery Co lines. Two points, one being the dramatic case of poverty. One of my Clinton Co, NY ancestors lists his possessions in his pension application as an "old" this, and a "broken" that, and states he has a "weakly" wife, yet he was living with his son who had migrated to IL and the family apparently owned property. The second point, on another line, and this was the line that moved into Montgomery Co, one son served in the NY Militia from Dutchess Co, while another (who hasn't been proven to be a son but evidence points to it) was a loyalist from Albany Co who went to Canada in the 1790s. So yes, anything is possible. Mary Mary Slack Maynard Researching Slack, Gregory, Hopper, Bigelow/Bigalow, Nichols, Dunning, Mead, Fish in NY and New England, Nash, Maginn/McGinn, Donahue, Vokes in NY and Ireland, Aird and Crombie in NY and Scotland People will accept your ideas much more readily if you tell them that Benjamin Franklin said it first.
Pat: Thank for your emails. Have to say that Andrew McNutt/McNitt did orchestrate a compelling and dramatic case for himself, to apply for a pension. However, he did participate in many battles--hard to reconcile that with family members being loyalists. Anything is possible. I think the Miller name is a definite possibility. Sarah was 15 in 1818 when Andrew applied for pension. Do you have a marriahge date, and whom did she marry? You told me where she went, but I lost it. Dorothy
Dear Chris, Thanks for the reply. I have that book on Lasher Lineage. Terry Reisinger 18 Walnut Creek PL. Dorothy Just wanted to let you know because I do extensive Research with my Business that the Pension Papers will all sound as if the person applying was Dirt Poor (so to say) and unable to live w/o this pension. However, in most cases all Real and Personal Property was given previously to the oldest of one of the sons and it is the only way they could collect the pension. It was based on their financial status, or otherwise they could not get the Pension. Let's face it they did not hire Case Workers back then either to check each one out. Just a local person would sign on their behalf. In the case of the wife applying nothing was ever in the woman's name anyhow, as the oldest son had it all and she could almost always collect. There are many cases where I know they could not of been that poor so I believe that is what happened. Also, I note you use the McNitt rather than the McNutt version or Spelling. But I have seen it several ways. Pat
Sally is a nick name for Sarah and I would assume that this is a Great Possibility. She was the daughter of Miller and lived with the McNutt's This difinitly could be the simple answer. Do we have anything to indicate that she was a Miller? The Miller name is another one that appears in Montgomery Co. from time to time and other than that I think this fits together. McNutt also appears in the Loyalist names and probably these are Brothers or family members to Andrew. Pat
Thanks for your email. VERY interesting! Esther died about 1821. Andrew McNutt died in 1818. He was in destitue circumstances in 1818. I have his pension application. He outlines all his military experience, and can't find his papers, and has been wiped out by flood and fire. The daughter of Esther's is Sarah. I do not know her maiden name. It could have been Miller --Esther Miller. She was a widow. Maybe we are on to something here. Thanks for your interest. Let us pursue this. dorothy
Is it at all possible that this child was from Andrew McNutt's First Wife?. Perhaps this Miller Family was a Sister and her husband that adopted the Girl? (This was after living with Andrew) The Girl was Sally Ann McNutt and the wife of this Andrew was Esther. The Girl was born on Jan. l, 1818. Sally married a Elkanah Rising on 2/10/1847 in Clayton New York. She died on 9/22/1903 This Andrew was born abt 1752 and was a Rev. War Veteran. Andrew McNutt stated in his Pension Papers that he was providing for an Orphaned Child. . Did Andrew have a brother or a son who died? Just all possible idea's of what might of happened. Pat
I am looking for information on Maurice Fitzgerald b. Dec 1853 NY. who married Catharine (Kate) Smith b. August 2, 1867 Camden, Onieda Co. NY. (daughter of Terrence and Julia Smith). The children of Maurice and Katharine Fitzgerald are: James H. Fitzgerald b. Feb. 1890 NY. Francis G. Fitzgerald b. Aug. 1893 NY. Thank you. Toni Smith-Cannon
The Andrew McNutt, born in Palmer, MA, died in 1778, and his son Samuel McNutt was sent to live in home of his uncle, John McNutt in Rowe Franklin County, MA. Samuel lived for a time in Eastern New York, and then ended up as a lighthouse keeper at Sacket's Harbor, Livingston County ,New York "My" Andrew McNutt, also born in Massachusets, married at New Marlborough, Berkshire County, MA., moved to Montgomery County after the Rev. War., probably had a son Andrew. Could this have been the connection you seek? I am expecting several pieces of mail to establish the children of Andrew McNutt/Abigail Harmon/Esther. I do not know if Andrew and wife #2, Esther, had children. I doubt it. Keep in touch. Dorothy
