    3. I understand that the old Baptist Church at Charleston, Montgomery Co., is still standing, and in fact is home to the historical society for the town. How can I contact the historical society, do they do research, how can I obtain a photo of the church, and do they have a webpage? My THORP ancestors attended here around 1790-1830. Thanks Mark A. Wentling

    3. I have a copy of " History of Montgomery and Fulton Counties" by Frothingham on microfilm and would be happy to do lookups for anyone. If you order a copy of the tape into your local Family History Center you can keep it there indefinately if you renew it twice. Total cost would be $9.75. The film # can be found on familysearch.org under family history library catalog either under an author search or place search for Montgomery Co NY. Local FHCs can also be found on that site. If you have trouble finding it email me and I can give you the film #. 1. [NYMONTGO] FHC/LDS indefinite microfilm rentals.
    2. Jim & Lisa Slaski
    3. Mark! As far as I know FHC/LDS only loans films for customer use at their locations. Many locations, but not all of them, allow you to indefinitely ("permanently") loan and store the microfilm. But you don't get to "keep" them yourself. They must be stored and viewed on location. If there's an FHC that's not too terribly inconvenient for you to get to once in a while, it's worth making the trip every so often. Also, they usually don't do anything through the mail (i.e. you must go there and hand them the money in person to rent the film... can't call it in over the phone). If you've never been to one, it's worth at least one trip to see what they have available, then you'll be able to better plan any future research trips to the FHC. For your first trip, plan on getting there early and, if you can, call ahead (at least a few days before) and make arrangements for a volunteer to show you "around". This way you should get a good overview of their material, both what's on-hand and what's available to rent. You can also view a small amount of their material on their website at: <http://www.familysearch.org/> Hope this helps, Lisa At 02:39 PM 8/25/00 -0400, you wrote: > > >Carol, > >In my experience Sampubco's copies have been the best you can get with >microfilm. 3. Carol, In my experience Sampubco's copies have been the best you can get with microfilm. Quality is reduced when documents are filmed, and then reduced again when they are printed -- that is unavoidable due to the different ways readers and printers interpret the data (continuous tone vs. pixels). I suspect Sampubco makes the best possible copies he can get (without wasting too much time and money on "test" pages), so that he keeps the customers who try his services. I'd say go for it -- I've always been satisfied. I am not conveniently located near an FHC -- can you please tell me if a person can purchase microfilms of wills to keep permanently? Thanks! 3. Mark, I don't believe that you can purchase the microfilms to keep. Thanks for your answer. I've been quite frustrated with the copies of the wills I have. I keep meaning to transcribe them into my computer, but I never seem to have enough time. I think I'll try SamPubCo for the wills for which I know I'd like to have more permanent copies. However, I do like to go through the films of wills. I've happened upon a few I wasn't looking for that were quite interesting (and related to me). Thanks again, Carol in Calif Mark Wentling wrote: > Carol, > > In my experience Sampubco's copies have been the best you can get with > microfilm. 3. I have finally had time to have a look at Cliff's site & YIPPEE there I found the burial place of my HYDE ancestors. Thanks for a wonderful web site & who knows what else I'll find on further visits. Researching Elihu HIDE/HYDE family in Montgomery Co NY by 1785 & possibly earlier. Would love to hear from anyone else researching this line. It focuses on the following NY counties: Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Schoharie, Montgomery and Greene. At present, the major part of the site consists of links to vital records (birth, baptism, marriage, and death), plus some censuses, deeds, wills, military records, various other kinds of lists (tax, poor house, etc.), maps, online articles, etc. > > Also, my Guide to Albany Area Genealogical Resources, which some of you have already seen, has been moved to this NEW location. You would get full credit for the labor. There are other records or lists of people that would be appropriate as well. > > The site is far from finished, but I decided to open it for visitors while I continue working on it. Schoharie and Greene counties are poorly represented at this point. If you know of links that I have missed, I would welcome your suggestions. > > The URL is: > > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ > > Cliff Lamere Albany, NY >

    1. [NYMONTGO] General Israel Putnam
    2. Cliff Lamere
    3. Bob and others, There were a lot of Putmans in Montgomery Co., but I don't know if they were related to Putnams. If so, the following may be of interest. It is from an old book that many list members may not have seen. General Israel Putnam was chief in command of some Hudson River forts including Fort Montgomery. If he was part of your heritage you will want to see this image and perhaps the following ones. There are probably at least 500 pages that I am typing up. I can not possibly do lookups as they are not indexed or in any order except by section. I am only on Section K.....the sections prior to K are online. Check the FULTON COUNTY page. The only reason I posted the PUTMAN is because I had just at that moment typed those names. Good luck in your searches. Jo Dee Frasco

    3. SAMPUBCO does deliver. Mr. Samuelson is very busy and you just have to wait, sometimes a couple of months or more. Please be patient.
