Hi Tracy, I can't remember whether I gave you some information on William Harrison COOK and his ancestors or not. I do have the COOK line back to the immigrant ancestor. The VROMAN or VROOMAN family migrated from Schenectady County at some time. If you can find Eliza Ann's parents, I could probably take that line back to the 1600s. Kathy, I was unable to find any Roscos or Ruscos for you on either the Family Sketches index or the index to the History of Monytgomery County. There is another person who asked me to look for Rusco and if you want I can exchange your email addresses and let you get in contact with each other. You might be able to help each other. Tracy, I finally did your lookup and here is what I found. There was a William H Cook born 1882 to John and Harriet L Cook. This is much later than your time period. But I copied it off in case you want it. There was a Casper J Cook of Palatine mentioned as having a daughter named Maria, who married Peter G Fox. b ca 1820. I copied this off also. There was no mention of who Casper's wife was. I checked the index for The History of Montgomery County and found none of your names on the index. Please ggive me your address and I will send you what I have. Bob and Eleven, I was finally able to do your lookups today. There were three John Potters in the family sketches,: a John pg 239, John K pg 105 and John S. pg 246. I look at all of them and there was no reference to any of them being married to Susan (Shirley) . There was no listing for Susan Shirley or Susan Potter. There were no listings for either Ann Potter or John Geer or Ann Geer. I also checked the index to The History Of Montgomery County and none of the above people were on there. Each of the Johns had a wife. Could one of them been married to Susan and remarried after she died? That is possible although it seems that she would have been mentioned because these sketches are pretty thorough. Let me know if I can be of more help. I have just posted "City Directories as a Research Tool" on my website. City directories are much more useful than most people think, especially when church and municipal records cannot be found. They sometimes give date of marriage and who a woman married. They sometimes give date of death, and they may even tell the city to which a person moved. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/AID-City-Dir.htm Cliff

Hi Nelson, The Montgomery County Poorhouse was located on what is now Route 5 (I believe it is the town of Palatine) where the Mohawk Indian community now lives (It used to be Montgomery Manor). We have recently found some records for the poorhouse in our archives when we were doing an inventory. When someone died while residing there, I believe they were buried near there. Just west of the Mohawk community is a cemetery, but I am not sure if that was a part of the poorhouse or not. If you make it back to our department again, you are welcome to look at the records -- I hope to get them transcribed at some point to put on the shelves. Kelly Yacobucci Montgomery Co. Hi All, I have a question that someone out there may have some valuable insight on. My G-G-G-Grandparents (Benjamin and Catherine Spencer Nihoff), were "inmates" in the Montgomery County Alms House in Glen, New York for about the last ten years of their lives. They both died somewhere around 1870. They are both listed as "Paupers" on the 1860 census at the Alms house in Glen. First, does anyone know where the site of this "poor house" was located? Second, would there be any records at all about this place and if so, where would they be? Third, when someone died while "residing" there, how were their bodies disposed of? (Unmarked graves somewhere? Is there a cemetery somewhere in Glen that has the remains of all of these people that resided there?) Finally, what kind of death records exist from around that time period? I hope someone has some thoughts on this...its been a big question in my mind for a long time. Jean, I am really not sure. I ordered the index in on tape to my local Family History Center through the LDS Church. It cost $3.25. You possibly could order it to your library through inter library loan. It is name Index to Family Sketches for the History of Montgomery County, by Mrs. Lloyd Kagey. I should tell you that the family sketches is only one part of the book. You can also order in the book on tape. The tape also contains the histories of Fulton and Jefferson Counties. Let me know if I can help you more. I have just posted the number of Dutch Reformed Churches in each NY county for the years 1850, 1860, and 1870. The information is in column format so that it is easy to see changes that occurred in a county during that period of time. To see this web page, go to: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~clifflamere/ In the Table of Contents, click on Churches. Then, click on Dutch Reformed Churches in NY 1850-1870 At this point, I don't know the names of the churches in those counties. Cliff
Dear Lisa, By now you probably have enough requests to tie you up for a year, but I humbly add another. I am looking for information on a Cook. Our family history has him as W. Cook who married Eliza Ann Vrooman 19 Sept 1839. The Vrooman history has Eliza's husband as Harrison Cook. Both histories agree as to where the couple moved to (Cook County Ill). I have found references to William Cook, W. Harrison Cook and William Harrison Cook in the areas they are known to have moved to. The couple had a son William Harrison Cook, so I am assuming the person I am after has the full name of William Harrison Cook. I was given a tip that there was a William Harrison Henry Cook born to Caspar Cook and Anna Eva Richards in Stone Arabia 24 Oct 1813. I am looking for more information on the family of Caspar and Anna Eva, to see if I can find some collaborating information as to whether this is my man. Thank you so much for any information.
