Hi List, Searching for the following: HAZARD, CLARK, CONN, HOWLAND, BURNAP, VAN COURT, ALBEE, and HODGES in Montgomery Co. I'm looking for anything relating to my gggg grandparents William and Lucinda (CLARK?) HAZARD who resided in Charleston-Four-Corners, Montgomery Co, NY from about 1795 to about 1825. They had all seven of their children there before finally moving to Erie Co, NY. Lucinda is a possible relative to Timothy & William CLARK who were from Connecticut; thru Montgomery Co, NY; and on to Erie Co, NY. Any clue or tip would be greatly appreciated! My ancestor David McMaster survived the Cherry Valley, N.Y. massacre by Brant and his indians - one member of the family saw them coming and the family hit in the woods. - Good thing or I wouldn't be hear now! Do you have any Wm. Johnston or David McMaster ancestors? Jean (formerly New York - now Florida)
oops, sorry, that supposed to go to the American Revolution list - please forgive me! Karen :)
In a message dated 10/24/1999 12:24:53 PM Pacific Daylight Time, delll@home.com writes: << Now I know - not much of anything. That is really strange since there existed such an awesome cast of characters - Tarleton, Pat Ferguson, Daniel Morgan, Andrew Pickens, John Eager Howard. Many, Many more. >> Indeed! Not to mention Sir William Johnson (French and Indian War), Sir John Johnson and Joseph Brant. The latter two, killed many of my ancestors in the Mohawk Valley raids of 1780. Conversely, Lt. Col. Peter Wagner, and other of my relatives in the Battles of Oriskany, Saratoga, and others battles successfully fought them off. Just curious, has everyone seen the 1990s version of "Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day Lewis? It is my all time favorite movie. It covers the French and Indian War, but it shows how things were back then - very realistic. There were very valiant portrayals of British military men, like Col. Monroe (sp?) fighting for the British crown. Likewise, it is a fascinating study on how the settlers were treated and how bad blood began to brew between British and American Colonists. Amazingly, I saw this movie before I began tracing my genealogy and was completely enthralled by it. It wasn't until several years later that I discovered my ancestors were actually at Fort William Henry. If you rent or purchase it, be wary as it is quite realistic (gory). <<Keep posting Doc, this is great stuff.>> Ditto here. Cheers, Karen from New York now in California

Hi- Re: the Saltzmann name in your subject line, we show an Anna Maria Saltsman (father-George Saltsman, mother Margaret ?) married to Peter Davis (Born 1724 in Schenectady) in 1753. Peter was the son of Thomas Davis and Catarina Klein. That is all we have on them, however. Not sure if my first message got posted or not, but am looking for anyone who would have information about HUBBS or HUBS in Fonda area coming from the Long Island area in the 1700's and early 1800's. Thanks, Charlotte
Well I have been looking at some Web sites and I find the Ursula Shultz mentioned. Ursula was the name of the second daughter of Marrietta Shultus / Shultz and Timothy Clark, so I guess its a good bet she was named for Marrietta's mother. I am going in the right direction and thank you for your help. I know I need to do more reading on the Palentine Area in Montgomery Co. Best to you Shirley
Karen, Thank you for the names, tho I have been researching for a good many years, I havn't delt into Paletine research. Could you give me kind of run down on it. I know I shall have to do some research on history ect. Best to You. Shirley
At the moment I'm researching the surname WIETING in Montgomery Co. Johann Christoph Wieting was a German soldier in the British Army. He was captured at the Battle of Saratoga and remained in the US after the Revolution. He was the minister at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minden from 1796 to 1817 when he died. He allegedly fathered 14 children, and I have been able to identify 6 for certain and another 5 candidates. He was supposedly married at least twice. His last wife was Maria Magdelena BEYAN and his next to last Anna Maria ____ who died sometime between 1795 and 1798. Other surnames given for his wives are HAINER and GROFF. Any help with the Wieting surname would be welcomed. Some other surnames of interest from the Montgomery Co. area are: BADER, BAUDER, PAUTER, BURNS, BURHANS, FUCHS, FOX, HART, KLOCK, GLOCK, MAIER, MOYER, NELLIS, RICKART, SNEIDER, WANNER and spelling variations. I have some data on at least one individual with each of these surnames. Ed Harrison Lake Clear, NY
