At least where she worked, they made what I would call pins - political and otherwise. She would always bring me a "Happy Birthday" pin on my birthday. They were metal and had a pin on the back. When she passed away, I found hundreds of pins/buttons in her apartment - political and commemorative. They may have also made clothing buttons, but I never heard anything about this. I have a picture in my mind of a lot of spinsters sitting on stools in a large, cold room putting these buttons together based on how my great aunt described her work. Hi This sounds more like Bastian Brothers than Rochester Button Works. Bastian Brothers made all sorts of pin-on pins.
