It was a deep creek that went across Lake Avenue (then N. State) between Glenwood Avenue and Lexington Avenue. There was a bridge built across the creek early in the history of Rochester so you could go north to Lake Ontario. The creek is now underground and there isn't much evidence that it was there. It probably runs under Dunkin Donuts on the west side of Lake Ave. and Tops Supermarket parking lot on the east side. The area was also called McCrackenville as Doctor McCracken lived there. There was a small cemetery in the area (see http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mccrack.htm). It may have been a cemetery for Dr. McCracken and his family. It appears that the cemetery was moved about 1846 to the much larger city owned Mt. Hope Cemetery on the south side of the City. I found Nathaniel Jenks buried in Mt. Hope (see actual burial record at: http://www.lib.rochester.edu/IN/RBSCP/Databases/IMAGES/MtHope/disc1/00000170.pdf). It says he was buried Feb. 28th 1848 in the public grounds (Pub.). I copied the tombstones in that section of Mt. Hope back in the 1980s (see http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mthope-sec-osg.htm) and he doesn't have a tombstone. Not surprising for that section as there are only about 1 in 8 buried there that have a tombstone. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
