    3. I was notified that my posting about the genealogy seminar on Oct. 16th contained an error. There isn't free parking at the Court St. Parking Garage. There is free parking at the on street meters on Court Street and the rest of the meters in the area. That would be a very limited of parking spaces. Dick

Based on the location and death dates Dana Gangel has to be the "Dama" Gangel listed in the Bible. Now if I could just figure out how she is related to me! I had also come across that census listing for Daniel Peters in Bergen and assume it is Daniel Peters, Sr. and his family but otherwise I am at a dead end as far as records for him. Is there any good source for birth or marriage records from that area and time period? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There is a very long obituary for him in the Brockport Republic newspaper on October 17, 1878, page 2. It is too long to type out (1 column wide, full page long). If you either post your name and mailing address here, or email it to me at dspecht1(at)rochester.rr.com I will mail you a copy of the obituary. --Don Specht Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [NYMONROE] Free Genealogy Seminar
    2. Dick Halsey
    3. The Rochester Genealogical Society and the Central Library of the Rochester Public Library are having a free genealogy seminar called "Discovering Your Roots" on Saturday, October 16th from 9:00 to 4:00. There will be be 11 lecture presentations which means that there will be two presentations given at a time for most of the day. Some presentations will be in the North Hall on the 3rd floor of the Rundel Building and the others will be in the Auditorium, also on the third floor. For full list of presentations go to the Rochester Genealogical Society website (http://nyrgs.org/). Before you attend any of the presentations you should stop on the second floor and pick up a Welcome Folder. Also there will special exhibits and demonstrations from the Church Records Preservation Committee of RGS, The Landmark Society, Rochester Regional Library Council and the Rochester Historical Society (they are charging $3 for adult admission). There will also be free parking at the Court Street Parking Garage. That garage is next to the RPL Bausch and Lomb Building which is connect to the Rundel Building by a tunnel. Or if the weather is good just walk across the street. If you are coming for the whole day, options for lunch are limited. There are vending machines on the first floor but they will probably be cleaned out early. Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is across Court Street. Seeing the Local History and Genealogy Division doesn't allow food or beverages, you might want to bring a book bag with a snack and beverage that you can eat in the vending area on the first floor or in the Auditorium on the third floor. Some of last year's presentations are available on the Library's Channel on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/monroecountylibrary). I'll be there. Hopefully you will be there too. Dick Halsey

    1. [NYMONROE] new web page and updates
    2. Dick Halsey
    3. I uploaded a new web page to the GenWeb of Monroe County website (mcnygenealogy.com). This page is veteran burials in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery for lots 8 to 13 of the South Division. It is at: http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/vets-holy-sep-8-13s.htm I have been working on the veteran burial records since about 2001. There about another 1000 veteran records for Holy Sepulchre that I have to put into the computer. That will make another 6 or 7 web pages. Also I fixed about 50 links to other web pages. Some websites regularly change the address to pages and it gets difficult to find the new address of a certain page. Then there are those websites that just disappear never to be heard from again. GenWeb of Monroe County now consists of 918 web pages. Dick
