Like B and V, they are often misteken for one another. I have Teutsch ancestors in my family lines... have you found any evidence that your George Deutsch could have been George Teutsch? If you think there could be any connection, I would be interested in hearing back from you. My Teutsch ancestors were from Schifferstadt, Germany. These films are available through the LDS family history centers, although our index is not (yet). The LDS also has the 1865 NYS census available online for free - https://beta.familysearch.org/s/collection/show#uri=http://search-api:8080/searchapi/search/collection/1491284&hash=Mrd8SMocDIIen2Q83tu%2B82PRagg%3D There are 58 pages for Gates online. There is a Jas. Buchanan living in Parma NY (very near to Gates) who is (maximum age 49) in 1840. He COULD have a daughter born in the 1820's. Also, you might want to check Monroe County's land records. They are publicly assailable but are not online or accessible from outside the County Clerk's office. Author: LocalHistoryDivRPL Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.monroe/12124.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The 1855 census of Gates shows a large family for Seth and Jane Hart. In that, it states that Seth was born in Schenectady County, and is 43 (born about 1812). He has lived there for 28 years (i.e. came in about 1827). She is listed as being 33 (i.e., born about 1822), in Canada, and being in Gates for 23 years (i.e. 1833). They have a 15 year old daughter, Nancy, born in Monroe County. They are not listed in the 1818-1850 newspapers. The Seth Hart family appears in Gates in the 1840 census, but church records are lacking that early, and the state of NY did not keep BMD records officially until 1881.
