The various information (in PDF format) contained on this site was so very helpful and I was able to locate burial records in Odgen for four of the Covington members along with a couple of births and a death record (on their index listings). I found various articles for some of those Covington family members previously mentioned on my first query for Monroe Cty from using www.fultonhistory.com web page! Although slow at times, it's well worth the time spent. I'm interested in obtaining a few of the obits mentioned in your response. Are they really $10.00 a piece per obit for the library staff to obtain them from the microfilm? I really appreciate your most useful response. Thank you!! Hi, Ron I am descended from Elizabeth KILBY and Nehemiah WESTON through their daughter Alma (b Aug 1794/5 in Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut and died 9 May 1872 in Oswego, Kendall Co., Illinois). Alma married John MOORE (b 10 Sep 1796 in Ireland, died 13 Apr 1865 in Kendall Co., Illinois) before 1817 in Parma, Monroe Co., New York. Their first child, my ggggrandfather Addison C. MOORE was born 12 Jun 1817 in Clarkson, Monroe Co., New York so the WESTONs should be looked for throughout Monroe Co., NY with searches of Michigan and Illinois to Iowa as migration routes. A couple of years ago, there was a well-researched article on our Nehemiah WESTON who died 13 Mar 1850 in Farmington, Oakland Co., Michigan. I am not able to get to my files right now, but I have a copy of the article and can certainly find the reference for you (it was published in TAG or NEHGS or a journal of that caliber) by a cousin. Have you read the article? I would be interested in comparing notes and sharing info with you. The WESTONs were an interesting family, Nehemiah having been one of the more adventursome of them. Nice to hear of someone researching the same people! Does anyone know what a place called "The Orchards" was? It may have been a cemetery or building plots. It was administered by the Harris-Becker-Campbell Corp of Rochester, NY located in the Union Trust Building. It was in existence at least between 1927 and 1932. One of me great uncles bought a lot there but does not say what it was for. Thanks John LaBarre

This makes more sense, but I still do not see the name of Nathaniel/Nathan Jenks on this typewritten list either. I'm thinking perhaps I can get permission to at least place an "In Memoriam" stone for him somewhere nearby if not on the exact spot of his place of rest. Another thing.... I noticed on the handwritten record of burial that there was an infant "Henry F. Jenks" who was 1 yr old at the time of death on the same page (died of choloera). Can you tell me what church/es were active in 1845-1848 that might mention a baptism and name of parents of this Henry F. Jenks? I would not be surprised if he turns out to be Nathan's son. If so, he would be an addition to our family tree. Thank you! Linda in Tampa, FL Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Comparing the Mt. Hope burial records and my tombstone inscriptions, I found 3 people with tombstones that died in the 1840s that were buried in the Public Grounds #1 and none that were buried in the Old Single Graves. So Nathaniel is buried in the Public Grounds #1 (http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mthope-sec-pg.htm). There are even fewer people in that area that have tombstones. Seeing as Nathaniel was buried in 1848 he is somewhere in the first few rows of that lot, which would be the east side of the Public Grounds. Mt. Hope does have lot maps of most lots. Not sure if they have a lot map for the Public Grounds but there is a slim possibility. The Cemetery doesn't do research. Instead they refer all requests to a volunteer group called the "Friends of Mt. Hope." Go to their website (http://www.fomh.org) and click on "Contact us." Hope burial records, you can see that they usually give a specific location as lot number and section (a letter). The location for Nathaniel only says "Pub." for public grounds and doesn't give the important information which is row and grave number. So there is no way of finding his exact burial location. It was a deep creek that went across Lake Avenue (then N. State) between Glenwood Avenue and Lexington Avenue. There was a bridge built across the creek early in the history of Rochester so you could go north to Lake Ontario. The creek is now underground and there isn't much evidence that it was there. It probably runs under Dunkin Donuts on the west side of Lake Ave. and Tops Supermarket parking lot on the east side. The area was also called McCrackenville as Doctor McCracken lived there. There was a small cemetery in the area (see http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mccrack.htm). It may have been a cemetery for Dr. McCracken and his family. It appears that the cemetery was moved about 1846 to the much larger city owned Mt. Hope Cemetery on the south side of the City. I found Nathaniel Jenks buried in Mt. Hope (see actual burial record at: http://www.lib.rochester.edu/IN/RBSCP/Databases/IMAGES/MtHope/disc1/00000170.pdf). It says he was buried Feb. 28th 1848 in the public grounds (Pub.). I copied the tombstones in that section of Mt. Hope back in the 1980s (see http://mcnygenealogy.com/cem/mthope-sec-osg.htm) and he doesn't have a tombstone. Not surprising for that section as there are only about 1 in 8 buried there that have a tombstone. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
