However, searching for "George Covington" yielded an entry in the Hilton Record: HILTON, N.Y., THURSDAY, NOV. 4, 1937 George Covington Dies Suddenly George Covington,62, widely known farmer in the Parma area, passed away suddenly Friday. October 29th at his home at the comer of Bailey and Parma Center Roads. Mr. Covington was the victim of a heart attack. When he failed to come in to his evening meal, his wife started to the barn to look for him and discovered him lying in front of the barn, having finished his chores and evidently started for the house, when he was stricken. Born in Kendall on July 25, 1875, he came to Parma as a youth and but for four years in Buffalo, had lived on the homestead since. He was a member of Parma Grange.and of the North Greece Fire Department. Survivors are his wife, Gertrude Chase Covington, whom he married in 1897; a daughter. Mrs. Raymond Veness, of Parma; a son, Floyd Covington, of Hamlin: two brothers, Manley of Spencerport and Fred Covington of Elba, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home, with the Rev. Alexander MacKenzie, pastor of the First Baptist Church of East Rochester, officiating. Burial was in Parma Union Cemetery. On October 25, 1915, Mrs. Harry VanGieson left her home on the Williams farm, south of Hilton, and next day she was traced to Spencerport and Rochester, but further trace of her was lost. It was learned, however, that Mrs. VanGieson was in Rochester on November 1, 1916, when she visited her brother, Milo Covington, then ill at the Monroe County Tuberculosis Sanitorium. At that time she told friends that she was living near Syracuse, but refused to give her address. From that time on she completely disappeared. When her brother and father died, advertisements were inserted in various newspapers, but none of them brought a response. When Emeline Brough, a relative, died in Minnesota in 1918, further unsuccessful efforts were made to find Mrs. VanGieson in order that she might be paid the legacy. It has been held in trust and now will go to her her heirs. On Tuesday of this week. Surrogate Selden S. Brown appointed VanGieson administrator of the fund and declared Mrs. VanGieson presumably dead. http://www.fultonhistory.com/Newspapers 6/Hilton NY Record/Hilton NY Record 1924 Jul - 1926 Jun Grayscale/Hilton NY Record 1924 Jul - 1926 Jun Grayscale - 0750.pdf#xml=http://www.fultonhistory.com/dtSearch/dtisapi6.dll?cmd=getpdfhits&u=fffffffffd61338e&DocId=9677826&Index=Z:/Fulton Historical&HitCount=2&hits=638 639 &SearchForm=C:\inetpub\wwwroot\Fulton_New_form.html&.pdf Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A volunteer checked the statewide fiche of BMD's (which by law cannot be searched online), and found an entry for Vernon N Rogers, born Rochester 19 Sept. 1922, certificate 75734. The index does NOT give the parents - one would have to order that, preferably from the state which will give a photocopy of the cert rather than just an extract like the county supplies. To decode Covington, Dorothea "Skeet" 6/28/2000 7/3/2000 DC, that means that she died June 28, an obit appeared July 3, and it was in the Democrat and Chronicle. The abbreviation TU means the (now defunct) Times Union. If there's no first date, that means that the death notice itself did not have an identifiable one. The index was made from the papers themselves, so it's always possible that someone died and there was nothing in the papers.
