In the 1860 census, there is a column, to the right, that is titled "Married In The Year"; does that mean the census year or the prior 12 months? Karl MacEachron Fresno CA
I think that it means the couple was married during the 12-month period ending on June 1, 1880. I think the ages in the census were supposed to be stated that way and it probably is the same for a marriage - not sure of this however. Just thought of something else: If a person is listed on the Mortality Schedule for a particular year, it also means they died in the year ending June 1.
