Has anyone ever heard of an Ella Shay, who had a son named Carlton? I have a handwritten note that gives Ella's maiden name as Tufford or Jufford. I can't read the writing. Ella evidently died in 1953 at age 75. Her mother was said to have been a Green from the town of Smithfield. In the 1917 Rural Directory for Madison Co., I did find a David Shay with a wife Ella. They had 6 children and lived in Canastota. This sounds like the correct Ella. I'd like to figure out how she is related to any family in Smithfield - Greens or otherwise. Donna B.
Donna, This doesn't answer your question really, but there was a Carlton Shay who was a well known CPA in Canastota. His office did my income tax return, I think, in the 1950's. His son, Peter Shay, took over his business and still lives around Canastota somewhere.
