Thanks, Darci, to you an the other folks who took the time to send along some suggestions. We've read tons of the material on your website and many of those linked to the NY Madison County site. All very interesting and useful. No hits, so far, however, for our family. After some additional research it appears our David Carr ancestors actually landed initially in Nelson, Madison County, by 1820, then made their way to DeRuyter by 1830. If I were looking for wills, probate or property records, I presume I'd find them at the County Offices.
