Hello group, I am interested in any information about the Chapmans in Fenner or Nelson, 1800-1820. After searching for 15 years, I think I have found a possible family of Sarah Chapman, b. 1804 who married John Aylesworth b. 1807, son of Jasper Aylesworth (founding father of Peterboro). A Mary Chapman b.1795, married Jospeh Hammond & lived in Nelson. Their 1st 3 dau were Sarah, Fanny, Jane. My ggm Sarah's 2 dau were Fanny & Jane (not Aylesworth names). Both families (Hammond & Aylesworth) moved to Brookfield WI abt 1840/41. After doing some research (Pioneers of Madison Co., various censuses, & some online genealogies), I think they may be daughters of Roswell Chapman, b. 1775 or before or Nathaniel Chapman, b. 1775 or bef. One or both of these men had sons named Nathaniel, b. 1796-1800 & Roswell b. 1792-1796. The sons moved from Nelson to Georgetown to DeRuyter. Nathaniiel, the son died & is buried in Georgetown. They may have had brothers John b. 1800-1810 and Henry b. 1800-1810 who are on the 1830 Nelson census. Nathaniel the son, had a son Grove. Natrhaniel or Roswell had a son, Silas who md Clarissa Wadsworth, dau of Harry B. Wadsworth and his wife Esther Brownell. The break-through came when a descendent of Mary (Chapman) Hammond left me a message. I have some information on the Hammonds who stayed in WI & MN. Any information on any of these families would be greatly appreciated. Marilyn [email protected]
