This James and LeRoy and my James and LeRoy probably are not the same because my James was born in 1815. Having said that your James and LeRoy did live in the town of Cazenovia in 1860 and in the town of Nelson in 1870. Your James wife was Meroa (spelling in 1860 census). The transcriber spelled it Mroa. In the 1860 census taker spelled it Mercy. Common mistakes in Census takers. I think most of it was taken verbally and they just took their best guess and then some of the census takers were not the best with handwriting. In 1910 LeRoy was a widowed farmer living in Madison County, town of Fenner. His 76 year old Mother Meroa was a widow and living with her son at the time of that Census.- Now an interesting thing that I have found on the 1880 census is that Armenia the daughter of LeRoy and Mary was listed as a 3 year old on the Nelson census taken on the 4th and 5th days of June 1880. I also found her with her grandparents, Meroa and James in Fenner on the 6th day of June 1880. So she was obviously counted twice. Fenner and Nelson townships adjoin each other and perhaps the little girl was spending the night with her grandparents. Interesting. Sorry about the other James and Leroy. Hi Dorothy, I believe that my James and Leroy did live in the town of Cazenovia/ Fenner area and I always wondered if we had Moroah's name spelled correctly. My grandmother used to tell how the house she lived in, in the city of Oneida, was moved from the Fenner area, but I can't recall if it was her family's home or her husband's. I do recall my cousin talking about an Armenia in the family, but for some reason, I haven't inserted her into my computer files. I will have to go back through all of my paper work to find out more about her. Thanks so much for all of the info!
