    3. It's a lot easier than you might think. For one thing, women kept the same name all their lives. Also, the church did a regular census every few years and were smart enough to record both name and exact birth date. They also tracked people when they left or came into an area. Genealogy in the US would be a lot easier if we had done the same. I've taken my wife's Swedes and Norwegians back to the 1700's.
