Chas. I got curious about Lydia and Frederick Brainard. I found them in the 1855 Madison Co. census INDEX. They were husband and wife, living in the town of Hamilton. He was 27, she 21. Both born Madison Co. His mother "Claria" Brainard, 45, b. Madison Co. was living with them and his grandmother Eunice Hopkins, 77, b. Rhode Island. In 1860, Frederick is still in Hamilton but no Lydia with him. Instead, Jennie S. Brainard, age 23, son Frederick S. age 3, and mother Clarissa E., age 51. Eunice is still with them (forgot to copy down her age). "Fred" and Jennie are in Hamilton in 1870 and 1880, and the son Fred shows up in there in 1900. He's married and his widowed mother Jennie is living with him. Perhaps the stone is for a child of Frederick and Lydia (definitely his first wife) or perhaps even a stone for Lydia herself, who evidently died before 1860?
