My library has dropped all the out of state newspapers on line. Also Heritage Quest. I always thought that New York City, Chicago, & Los Angeles obits from about 80 years was available no matter what happened to the rest. I see the NY City Library has it if you are a member. Does anyone know if there is way to see these obits without having to use your local library.
Did the library drop its subscriptions to all genealogy sites? Maybe they have Ancestry.com, which has an obituary database and one for searching old newspapers. If you go to www.cyndislist.com and go to the category "Obituaries", there are many links listed. Some are free sites and some are by subscription. You might be able to find a link to a free version of what you need. Otherwise, try posting a request to the rootsweb message board for the county where the obit was published, and perhaps someone on that list will be able to get it for you. http://boards.rootsweb.com/ or go to the home page at www.rootsweb.com, and click on the button for "message boards" on the menu bar across the top. Another technique is to Google the name and obituary together, and see if a link to the obit comes up on the search results list. If you have a nearby Family History Center, go there and they will help you. Anyone is welcome to use their resources free of charge and they have very knowledgeable volunteers. If you aren't sure where to find one, go to www.familysearch.org. Enter your state in the little box at the bottom of the center column to get a list of centers in your state. Hope something in this is helpful. Tink At 06:40 PM 11/7/2010, you wrote: >My library has dropped all the out of state newspapers on line. Also >Heritage Quest.
