    3. Could be that he was known by middle name, very common practice. Also, families repeated names if child died. My grandfather Joseph was 10th of 12 kids. Firstborn named Joseph had died at age 2. Both were named after their paternal grandfather. Another idea - did someone remarry or adopt a child.
