Donna - This is a copy of an old map of the Cicero area including Bridgeport and a part of Oneida Lake and Frenchman's Island and Durham Island. It is rather a large map so have patience. I have many family members that were listed on that map. I do not recall where I saw it originally but have kept it in my fav places for a long time. _http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~springport/pictures84/8423.jpg_ (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~springport/pictures84/8423.jpg) There is a copyright of 2004 on the bottom of the map with the name of William Hecht. I hope I am not breaking any rules by sending it on but those islands looks so much like someone's eyes! The rest of the map is interesting also, as it shows the Cicero Swamp . I wonder how much of that is still swamp and how much has been drained over the years. Well something to look over and if you have Bridgeport,Cicero or Brewerton area family you might find their homes listed on this map. I found many of mine. Dorothy
Dorothy Much of Cicero has built up - in fact where my apartment is - was swamp and pasture for a farm. It is the main discussion every time new housing tracts are established is the drainage problem. Man is taking over so much of nature. There is still a lot of swamp. Route 298 is usually closed in the spring due to flooding. And there are still plenty of mosquitoes. I feel sorry for the wild life, they are being pushed out of their natural habitat. Soon enough Cicero Swamp rattle snakes will be basking on some ones front steps! But I think Mother nature will hang on to a lot of her swamp regardless of the build up. Guess it's called progress.
