Hi Pat and others who have responded: Thanks for your suggestions. Dorothy B. has helped me to find some specific descendants of the person I'm interested in and I'm hoping they will reply to me. But I guess I should have been more clear, in the beginning, on what I was looking for. Since it DOES actually have a connection to Madison County, I guess I can go into a little more detail here. The situation is this: In March 1871, the Madison County Home for Destitute Children opened in Peterboro. The first child to be recorded in the records of the Home was John F. Henry (b. 1859 NYS); he was one of 14 children brought from the Poor House in Eaton. On July 20, the Peterboro museum is having a program on the history of the Home. Because John Henry was the first child admitted, I would like to invite his descendants to attend. ESPECIALLY, I would like to obtain a picture of him. Of course, I'd like to invite descendants of ANY children who were in the Home, but I know the most about John and don't have time to research all the others. From research that I did do on my own, I know that John Henry graduated from the Univ. of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1895. Following this he was a lawyer and county judge in Ramsey Co., North Dakota (1900 census, Devil's Lake, Ramsey Co., ND). He was still in ND in 1910 but by 1920 he was living in Ilion, Herkimer Co., NY, where he spent 17 yrs. as an Internal Revenue agent. He died in 1943 and is buried at the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. I have a copy of his obit. from FultonHistory.com Since I've found out quite a bit about his 2 wives, children, and descendants, I think my main goal now is to get a PICTURE of him. I sent a query to the North Dakota State Historical Society (no reply yet) asking about Ramsey County history, contacts, etc. I also thought perhaps I should contact Herkimer Co. Historical Society, but was waiting to possibly hear from John's descendants before I spend $ in Herkimer Co. Sorry for the length of this post.
