some NYC newspapers are now on the www.fultonhistory.com site, plus it seems that "Joe Banana" the mobster made state-wide, if not national news. hmm. interesting. I have found the Bonnano family name in Fulton, wonder if there is any connection? On the entertainer front, I can only find one reference to the 1920-1940's Joe Bananna and his bunch" There are many current groups going by this name which is kind of funny. Hi all Don't know exactly how true this all is but... For awhile, there was a Mafioso connection between NYC, a lot of CNY, and northern New York. From what I gathered... the Adirondacks were a favorite vacation spot for "organized crime families," and much of eastern CNY was a stopping point between NYC and the ADK park. Without meaning to be politically incorrect (which has become a real burden, by the way, in my opinion,) the Jews went to the Catskills and the Mafia went to the Adirondacks. Joe Bonanno was known as "Crazy Joe" or "Joe Bananas." There is a lot (and I mean a LOT...) of reading that relates the Mafioso to CNY. JCB
JCB, Do you have an suggested "reading material" related to CNY Mafioso? I live in the southern tier near Apalachia the infamous community where they raided the mafia. I haven't ever seen or heard anything about CNY so I'm quite interested... (as if you couldn't tell... hee hee) E On Oct 5, 2010, at 9:14 PM, JCB wrote: > Hi all > > Don't know exactly how true this all is but... > > For awhile, there was a Mafioso connection between NYC, a lot of > CNY, and > northern New York. There is a well-known bk. about the Bonanno crime family called "Honor Thy Father" by Gay Talese. It was a best seller back in the 1970's. However, I read the bk. about 30 yrs. ago and don't recall whether it mentions central NY other than the Appalachin meeting. Since the bk. was a best seller you might still find it at your local library. Herma
