    3. I'm trying to trace a man whose name is given in the Mormon records as listed above. I believe he was born in the East Indies, Island of Malaca (Malacca?) about 1827. He married Mary Lathrop Raymond of Peterboro, NY and they had at least 3 sons: Charles Raymond Smith b. 1858, Frank Smith b. 1860 & d. 1878, and Robert Milton Smith b. abt. 1864. Census records that I've found: Robert and Mary were in Albany City in 1860 and 1865, where he was a bookbinder. In 1880 he is listed as R. A. F. Smith and is living in Greenbush, Rensselaer Co., NY, with his family. His wife Mary d. 16 Feb. 1889 at East Albany and he died 16 Mar. 1904 place unknown. (These dates are from the Mormon records.) I'd like to find obituaries for this couple and perhaps descendants. There are so many hits for Robert and Mary Smith that it makes it hard to search. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks!!!! Donna Burdick

    3. Hi Donna, Have you found any info on their children? There may be obits or other records for them to provide details about the parents, or at least provide a lead to search. As you know, obits are a relatively modern invention. Before 20th century obits were much less common unless person was famous or locally important. So probability of finding obits for Charles and Robert are better than for the parents. I know your challenge with Smith name. I have Smith ancestors in Pennsylvania. Great Grandma's parents were missing for years but the brick wall finally tumbled a couple years ago. Now I'm stuck at the GG Grands. 3. Tink I found that their son Charles Raymond Smith, who was b. 21 Jun 1858, died 27 Apr. 1928 - don't know where. He was m. on 31 May 1880 to Helen Arnold Parks at East Albany, NY. Tried to find this couple in some census records but no luck so far.
