From: Rich Holmes <richholmes@richholmes.net> Date: Thu, Feb 18, 2010 at 10:25 AM Subject: Surnames HOLMES, COLLINS, COOK, DUNN, BELDEN, YORK, HOAG, BROWN To: NYMadison list <NYMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> It's been quite some time since I last posted about my Madison county ancestors. These include: Clarence Edwin HOLMES, born South Hamilton, 1875. His parents were Jerome N. HOLMES, born Town of Hamilton, 1834, and Ruth Oliva COLLINS, born South Hamilton, 1833. Jerome's parents were Hiram HOLMES, born Connecticut, 1804, and Rhoda COOK, born Norwich, Chenango County, 1805. I will say more about the Holmes line in another post. The Cook line is fairly well known although I could use some more documentation and facts about Rhoda's parents. Oliva's parents were Solomon COLLINS, born Hopkinton, Rhode Island, 1796, and Anna DUNN, born Rhode Island, 1792. The Collins family has beeen well researched by others, but I have very little on the DUNN line. Clarence's wife was Mary Alice BELDEN, born West Brookfield, 1877. Her parents were Warren BELDEN and Florinda Esther YORK. Warren was born in Cortland, 1848, and his parents were Daniel Jerome BELDEN, born South New Berlin, Chenango, 1816, and Mary Gay HOAG, born Butternuts, Otsego, 1822. My information says Warren was adopted, however, and I have no information on his birth parents. I have some information on the Belden line back to the 1600s but it's rather sketchy and not well documented. The HOAG line is pretty well known. Florinda's parents were Lelen Collins YORK and Mary L. BROWN, both born in Brookfield (1815 and 1823 respectively) and their lines have been pretty well researched. If any of these surnames are of interest to you and you'd line to exchange information please get in touch. - Rich Holmes
